People keep saying this, but can we really miss a guy that was going to barely play?

Absolutely, 100%, yes. Harris's defensive energy was a game-changer in multiple games last year. Even if he ultimately didn't play a ton of minutes in those games, that change of energy led to a couple of wins that IMO would have been losses.

We may really miss him as early as Tuesday if Kolek gets cooking.

Probably better for Sencire’s career in the long term but I do think we aren’t as good/versatile without him this year.

By the end of the season Amani should be ready to run low post action as a starter.

I was impressed by DGL, but honestly, we've had a lot of guards over the years play well against low level competition and not be able to play nearly as well against tourney teams. DGL impressed me mainly because you could see his game-day athleticism and how pumped he was. Made good decisions and was aggressive. Those will translate, but I'm still thinking this was an outlier. Either way, should give him more confidence.

Amani impressed and surprised me....no, shocked me. Taking 3 pointers, 2 assists, no turnovers, 8 boards in pretty short minutes, and looked like a baller. There was a presence when he was out there, that made me feel like we were in more control of the paint. Maybe I have low expectations for freshman bigs, but I was very impressed. Think he has a great ceiling.

Amani reminds me of Tim Duncan. Of course not saying he is or will ever approach being that good, but just plays hard and doesn’t make mistakes. Not flashy, but all of a sudden you look up at the end of the game and he has 14 and 10 and his team wins.

So glad we have him. Hope we can play him enough to keep him happy so he sticks around next year and hopefully he sees all the minutes that will open up after this year. He’s going to be a great college basketball player.

Amani is definitely ahead of the curve of where you'd expect a freshman big to be. He still needs that upperclassmen strength as his play against Kansas showed, but I'm very excited to see him after a summer with Fletch to sculpt him and get the strength needed to bang against P5 bigs. Once he gets that, he's going to be a force to deal with as he passes the eye test to me.

Where do you get that he was barely going to play??? We are definitely going to miss him this season. There is no one on the team who brings the fire and passion that he brings to the team. You need to watch the Northwestern game if you need to refresh your memory just to name one of the instances where he turned the game in our favor

The Krush was also very weak. They cheered when we made a basket and threw out a couple "air ball" chants but otherwise didn't really add much to the atmosphere. For now, I'll just write it off to a Monday night game against EIU after a time change. Hopefully they wake up a little bit by Friday night.
Off topic, but I hate airball chants. Makes me cringe every time I hear it, in any game.

Paging Dr. Underwood. I expect Brad has on his to do list performing a cranial rectalotomy on CoHawk, successfully pulling his head out of his nethers before the Oakland game. CoHawk will make a full recovery and be fine by Friday.

It appear to me CoHawk only has passed once to his invisible friend. Much better.

There's always some bad blood against CoHawk from fans. Personally I wouldn't complain if he hit his 3pts at > 35% rate with enough attempts.
I’m probably one of the few that doesn’t cringe automatically when he shoots. I agree with conch, he needs to shoot. When he stops and thinks, it’s already too late. In the Kansas game, his shots were all within the flow of the game and he looked good. That was definitely not the case on Monday. I think the fans get frustrated bc they know he’s got the physical tools but overthinks.

PS - please no more double pumps Coleman.

How about a slightly less athletic, Al Horford?

I wouldn't put too much weight on the EIU game since he only plays 14 min and Indy or who said he was sick. But overall, we need to see his 3pt consistency. I agree that he needs to shoot. That's where his value is at for offence.

I don't want to look too far ahead, but a frontcourt of Amani and Morez is really exciting. There might not be any rebounds left for anybody else when those two are out there together.

Amani has been a pleasant surprise to me as he doesn't seem to be getting much time in the exhibition and early games. He has good hands that appear to be very sticky and soft. He caught a pass on a break from Domask right in front of the basket in traffic and scored that I believe Kofi or Dain would have mishandled or lost the ball. On top of that he can hit threes. That is a big plus he has over most of our recent post players.

What worries me...and may challenge this team...are teams with three perimeter shooters that can maintain a high...let's say 36-40% netting from behind the arc...much like Penn State and Northwestern were capable last year. The Illini do not have the quickness as perimeter defenders to negate that kind of attack. Few teams can manufacture that type of offense and sustain it, but Oakland MAY be one....and there may be others.

DGL is now the only perimeter defender who has the quickness and speed, and he is a frosh that can be abused due to lack of experience. We will see and I am hoping to be proven wrong...but only play on the court can do that. My fondest hope is that BU and staff have focused the past three days on a pointed effort...literally and figuratively...on defending their guards with laser focus and effort from the tip off and giving a number of players the opportunity to prove they can shut them down. TSJ, Harmon, Goode, DGL, Ty, and Domask are all to be challenged tomorrow night....on the defensive end. TSJ can improve his draft stock if he can show up as a defensive stopper. No going through the motions for 10 minutes trying to figure out how Oakland intends to play the game. "Zero points" should be the battle cry!!!

Really? He played a ton during the first exhibition and 14 minutes against EIU. That is a lot for a freshman on an old and deep team.
