Really? He played a ton during the first exhibition and 14 minutes against EIU. That is a lot for a freshman on an old and deep team.
I thought he only played 2-3 min in the exhibition. I didn’t see minutes played in the box score but don’t remember seeing him at all in the second half.

Hilarious start at the last meeting of OAK and IL in Assembly Hall on 12/8/2010, when they played the first 7+ mins with a women's ball! Check out the video on YouTube. Described there as "the gaffe of all gaffes."

After lots of TOs and missed shots (mostly long), Demetri McCamey finally slapped the ball and got specific to a ref on what was wrong with it. The ref switched it out for a men's one, and IL stormed back and won by 11 pts, after being down 15-6 when they figured it out.

In Weber's post-game interview, he explained that the last game in the hall had been a women's game. "It was probably the last one on the rack. (The ref) just grabbed one," he said.

I remember that. Brick city.

This happened last year with a men's ball at a women's game. One of the coaches cried sexism saying that this sort of thing wouldn't happen in a men's game.

I gladly tweeted her an article about this game.

I was at that game in person. Pretty much after every shot an Illini was yelling at the refs trying to get them to check the ball. You'd think the refs would've stopped the game and at least inspected the ball if not swap it out for a new one entirely by the second time someone said something but nah. I think it was actually Tisdale who finally got them to stop the game. Those first few minutes though, me and my friend were both like what hell did we walk into tonight.

Looking at the stats from the Oakland v Ohio State game (Link), a few things jumped out to me:

- Oakland, a 19.5 point underdog, led OSU in Columbus for the first 31 minutes of the game, before losing by six.

- Oakland had 29 fouls against OSU, with two guys fouling out. Looks like foul trouble and OSU's superior bench wore them down as the game went on. OSU shot 80% on their 30 free throw attempts and still struggled to get the W. Illini will need to prove they can make FTs; wouldn't be surprised if TSJ has double digit FTA.

- Oakland loves to shoot the 3FG, a good strategy for a mid-major looking to pull an upset. They shot 35 3FGA (just over 57% of their FGA), and made them (14 total) at a good clip (40%). One guy (Gohlke) put up 18 (just over half) of their 3FGA by himself. We will need to run them off the line and hope they are not hot.

- Would love to see us grind out the W against them instead of just trying to trade 3FGA with them and see who is hotter tonight. Not sure they have an answer for Dain inside, but in any event want to see good shot selection and execution and a decisive win on the boards.

Nice post. Would be interesting to check the rebounding numbers. We should be able to dominate the glass. I like Dain in this match up as well. Put Goode, Domask, Shannon, and DGL around him. Feed the post until they have to collapse and, once they do, have shooters everywhere. Would be a fun lineup to see.

Hopefully they show they are a top 3 big ten team tonight and put to rest any idea of an upset right from the tip.

A few comments as the Illini move toward the Oakland game.....

1. Why wasn't BU on them last week? I was present last night and that first ten minutes was unacceptable. The Illini were lethargic and being man handled by a far lesser physically gifted team. I blame the staff for that.
2. We are going to miss Sencire/Buck this year.
3. Was very impressed with DGL. The Kid was everywhere. His offense was needed, but his elevation on the block of the dunk attempt was a WOW moment! The player from Eastern was way above the rim and DGL came out of nowhere to snuff it!
4. New starting lineup should be: DGL, Domask, TSJ, QG, and DD. Second wave includes CH, Goode, and Rodgers. BU's starting lineup had no chemistry at the beginning of both halves and really killed the vibe of an opening night crowd that was ready to ROCK!!
5. Hoping it was first game nerves that affected our shooting and free throws last night. I felt every one but CH had good form on their shot so that bodes well moving forward.
Congratulations on this, you win forum hot-take of the week

Great points, especially on the 3s. Based largely on that 40% 3-pt shooting, they should have shot even more wrt 2s. If they maximized that, it looks like they could have won over OSU by 5 pts, based on the same total FGs and the ending percentages, so this team is dangerous when hot from 3 like that.

Watching Mike LT breakdown games and talk basketball teaches me something every week. Maybe I missed it somewhere, but why is this dude not on a college bench?

He seems so relaxed and relatable, and his insight seems spot on every time I watch. What he's looking at for the upcoming games is a great way to watch these early matches. What he saw vs. KU as opposed to EIU and how that affects tonight's matchup, as well as Marquette is so good.

Would he make a good assistant? Does he even want to?

Apologies if it's been covered before.
