How tall is mama frankenEdey? Or did the tall genes come from dad?

Krush should count the seconds Edey is camping in the lane. Force them to call 3 seconds
Does this actually work? I feel like coaches would working refs on this every game. If that's the case, and the refs cared, they would be calling it.

Edey has been protected and coddled for the past two seasons. Why would a student section chant make some of the worst refs in college basketball finally care?

I'm not sure I've observed Edey and the 3 second rule because I'm not sure I have it right in my head.

I've been looking, but haven't been able to get it down. When does the 3 seconds start? When 1 foot enters the lane? 2 feet? And when does it stop counting? When 1 foot leaves the lane, or both?

Because they’re some of the worst refs in college basketball and they can be easily influenced? 🤷🏼‍♂️

The three seconds rule (also referred to as the three-second rule or three in the key, often termed as lane violation) requires that in basketball, a player shall not remain in their team's foul lane for more than four consecutive seconds while that player's team is in control of a live ball in the frontcourt and the game clock is running. The countdown starts when one foot enters the restricted area and resets when both feet leave the area.

Made me curious, so I looked it up...count starts when one foot enters the lane and ends when both exit. However, the count does not start until the team has the ball in the frontcourt.

From the 2023-24 NCAA Basketball Rulebook:

I would guess that much of the frustration with many fans relates to Article 3. It appears the refs are pretty liberal in interpretation of this part of the rule. And note that Article 2 says "for more than three consecutive seconds" . . . .

The way fouls are called rebounders need to be jumping back into Edey when the ball goes up. Otherwise he is over them and getting the rebound. He is not only tall but strong enough in the lower body to just push them out of position and that will never be called. The same offensively as if the defensive man is stationary and there is contact it is almost always called on the defensive man even if he was vertical. Ty is strong enough to score with the contact.

Watch the first play after Pu gets the jump ball. smith gets the ball, dribbles until Edey come to free throw line, passes to Edey and screens for Smith. He pulls up for basically a free throw.

Secondly, you can’t let them get on a run just before half. They have gotten on a run and gone ahead. I hope STF is absolutely nuts during the game. My opinion is get Renn in foul trouble. Edey will get all the calls Tuesday.

In the first matchup, Illinois discovered a 5-shooter lineup got them back into the game (Hawkins-Guerrier-Harmon-Domask-Goode). I'd expect them to lean heavily on a similar lineup (though with TJ instead of Goode), to make Edey guard someone on the perimeter. I'm curious if they can also get Edey in foul trouble again, like they did the first time.

I think the rotation is the 6 you mentioned, with a Dain/Ty sprinkle when Edey is off the floor, based on matchups. I think Ty gets first crack for defensive prowess.

I have a hard time seeing anyone else get minutes in any fashion other than give so and so a 30 second breather before the media timeout.

In big games, the rotation generally shortens anyway. With the special matchups in this game, it shortens more. We have depth, but from here on out, don’t be surprised to see us go 6-7 instead of 8-9.

You can't let Edey (or any outstanding post) start backing down off the dribble. Any time he touches the ball you have to come with the hard double IMMEDIATELY. Make him pick the ball up and face guard him.

This is not how you beat them. They shoot 41% from three.

In Purdues 2 close losses, Edey still got his points but they were limited from the 3 point line: 3-9 vs Ohio State 5-19 vs Northwestern.

Their other loss at Nebraska was an anomaly and not the blueprint. Nebrasketball made 14 of 23 threes and turned them over 14 times.

It seems counterintuitive, but this is how you do it. Edey will get his points, you have to limit it the best you can, but every other player they put on the floor is deadly from deep. If we hard double Edey the entire game, we'll lose by 25.

Exactly. You have to control the 3 point line - Purdue has 6 guys shooting over 40% from 3, plus Lance Jones at 36%. Edey will hurt you, but the threes will bury you.

Its been a honor watching TSjr., past 2 seasons. Domask has proven he belongs at this level and he plays the game right! Coleman has come so far since freshman. He is making huge strides.
I wish Ty, QG/ who I believe is banged up., and Goode would get it firing 🔥!
It's been a great ride this season. Let's Run Purdues sneakers right off their feet!

Not in total agreement but kind of agree. Last game we held Edey in check and didn’t do too bad once the team calmed down. That game the problem was drives to the basket more than 3 pointers and honestly don’t know how Illinois can stop that third facet. I guess I’d use Edey as a lane clogger and direct their drives toward him making him a defender. But it might just come down to outscoring them.

Lol just messing 😅

But yeah I think the reason we were down so big early is we focused too much on Edey and everyone else (largely Kauffman Renn) got cooking

Case in point probably being we held Edey to 10 points but we gave up 48% three point shooting and lost the game. I'd rather he score 22 and we win.

LOL would love to feel confident in this, but Edey is rarely whistled for fouls (or lane violations for that matter). I think he averages something absurd, like under 3 fouls per 40 minutes. He has not fouled out even one time this season and only has 2 games where he had 4 fouls. For a player who spends 98 percent of his time on the court camped in the lane and looks awkward and off balance as much as he does to only be called for 2 fouls per game is pure insanity to me. He's going to be allowed to camp in the lane on both offense & defense and will be given the benefit of doubt for pushes/shoves, over-the-back, falling down on top of a guy, you name it.

I'll take some heat for this take, I'm sure, but he is officiated basically the opposite of how Kofi was. It almost seemed like when Kofi played that they actively tried to even the playing field with their whistles. Edey is larger than Kofi and also is far slower and more clumsy in his movements, less in control of his own body than Kofi was yet gets called for roughly half the amount of fouls.
I agree with this, I am amazed at the crap he gets away with from the officials. How many times has he hit someone in the head with an elbow and not get called for a flagrant because he is tall!!!!! It makes no difference with anyone else if the blow to head is intentional, so why is it OK with Lurch? He knows he gets away with it so he will swing that elbow at his defenders a couple times to keep them off him. The Orange Crush should start counting every time he sits his butt in the lane until the officials get embarrassed enough on TV to call it. Shout it out... ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR, FIVE, etc. Let's see how many times they can get to ten.
