I'm very interested in how Coleman Hawkins progresses this season. A number of poster think he can be an NBA level guy with his length and ability to play at all 3 levels. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if this season is a bit mixed for him --he should get all the tick he can handle, but I expect his most important work will be the heavy duty work defensively in the paint. At the other end, I could see his passing being really important to the offensive flow.

He's going to be a really important piece.
The thing I'm really interested to see is if he can score easily against other teams 5s. I have to imagine he will get a lot of open looks at 3 and if he has improved his shot it could be big.

I hope he steps up. If he starts out like last year, he could get buried on this bench fast.
The transfers and recruits will run right past him. No time to feel sorry for yourself. His
defense has been mediocre before this year, now he needs to show he can guard a guy
his size. If he turns into a defensive stud and leads this team (even after going 0-5 from
the field) we will be very, very good. No pouting.

Seems I remember him starting out very nicely last year...Kofi was suspended....

im not arguing, i like your optimism, i hope he is an All-Big ten wing. if he takes on
DMFW's persona as the best, toughest defensive player on the court we are set!

So it's less than 48 hours and I still haven't gotten my mobile pass tickets yet...they show up in my account with seat numbers but I can't download them. I'm just a little confused at the moment.

Good news is that Perrin will be visiting this Friday. Hopefully that's a good sign that mid December is a strong possibility.

Is he going to be a better option than junior Lieb? I hope we're able to go with Dain / Hawkins the whole season, and not dipping too far down the bench.

He’s the center
Only in 1 thru 5 he's the 5 guarding the other guys center. He's not a
post offensive player but draws the other teams to the perimeter. On
defense, he scares me. I see shot fakes, getting pushed around and foul
trouble unless this team can run double teams at the post and recover.

I think you could argue at times, chawk was the best defender on the court for us last year.

Rewatch what he did to Murray in our first Iowa game, absolutely clinic on one of the best players in college last year.

In my opinion chawks biggest challenge is still letting the game come to him. He’s got a lot of Giorgi in him in that way, though play style is vastly different.

Hawkins did a heck of a job on harper in champaign last December.

On behalf of Brandon, Ouch!
He's got a Big Ten Tourney Championship and Big Ten regular season championship on his resume. He battled Kofi everyday for two years. He knows the system and understands his role. While he may not see much tick, he must see his value, or else he would have hit the portal like the plethora of others. He will be a big part of our success this year.

I haven't soaked up all the preseason video, but I haven't heard Underwood mention him. (Lieb)
Anyone else?

With Perrin visiting this weekend, he will probably workout with the team on Sunday (no practice on Saturday after game). Of course staff cannot organize the workout and can't be present (haha, maybe peak around the corner). I would imagine in the workout that Lieb will be matched up with Perrin at some point. Perrin is so young, he just turned 18 on August 30. As I've said before Perrin's ceiling is very high. Go Illini

Watched some film of him --I can see reasons for excitement. Long, runs the floor, very good athlete, can play hard in the paint. Needs a lot of physical development, and is pretty young, but definitely shows potential.
