god i wish i were there. couldn't justify taking this vacation with a kid due so soon.

Today is the epitome of what everyone was asking for 5 years ago when Bret was hired. Consistent 7-8+ win seasons, good bowl games, and discussion nationally about reaching the potential that we knew this program could be. While it may be disappointing to not have made the CFP, we need to avoid becoming one of the fanbases that overlook the awesome experience of being in these bowls. That’s something we would have killed for a decade ago. Enjoy it Illini nation!

Agree. I was thinking about this yesterday and how often we would have gone into this schedule hoping for 6-6 but winding up 3-9. This schedule had all of our old hallmarks:
1. Our G5 opponent wound up conference champion.
2. We catch our traditional bottom feeder P5 opponent on their upswing.
3. We catch a traditional BIG bottom feeder during a historic run.

Yes it’s unfortunate we weren’t more competitive in our losses and yes, the Wisconsin game was disappointing but to go 8-4 against that schedule is pretty remarkable in the history of our program.
