Analytics tells you to go for it every time in that situation….get it it virtually seals the deal….think it jumps winning probability up to 95-98% and if you don’t only drops win probability by 3ish %
I can live with that, but if you've been stuffed three times up the middle can we fake a handoff to the middle and maybe bootleg our QB to either run it in or throw to a 6'7" tight end?

I have a feeling we don't trust the TE group... Their lack of opportunities and blunders when they get them has me worried
Luke Ford is a puzzling player to me , with all the hype and now such a lack of production........I was disappointed with barker transferring out as he had good production while an Illini , but his lack of maturity and a propensity for penalties negated some of that production...............TE's have not been a major source of production for a while now and that is confusing to me ......JMHO

A good receiving TE is such a valuable weapon. Of course they have to be able to block too. We brought in some freshman, but I assume they are arent ready or they would be seeing some snaps. Yes, Daniel Barker was a big loss. He only had 1 reception last weekend, but it was for a TD.

Get what you are saying, but we have some RBs. Love, Anderson, and Laughery may not be at Brown or McCray's level, but we have some guys that could do something, IMO.
If we continue to only put one back at a time in there, the defense will still know what's coming. We need to mix in some 2-back sets. Fake to McCray into the line and then dump it out to Brown or vis-a-versa

Agreed. Iowa has proven how effective TE's change of pace can be.

No choice but to trust them. Get them a LOT more balls and they'll start catching them. Important to not throw behind them. Devito seems to get amped up early and put a little more touch on the ball later. I think Devito had a bad day last week. Let's see if they all bounce back.

I think if they keep fumbling or causing INTs you can't trust them. I know we will use someone who tries but I have a feeling BB, BLJ, and KMD don't trust these guys in the passing game. We aren't good enough to waste possessions trying to get a group that isn't showing it in practice going. Williams, Bryant, and the RBs are and an OC should be creative enough to get those guys the ball to make an offense work.

I am a DeVito fan and love what I have seen from the young man. That fumble is more on DeVito leading him the wrong way than on Ford. At least BB thinks so if don't agree with my opinion. Just a bang-bang blindside play that needs to be cleaned up.

Throw in last season and this season so far and 2 of the top 3 offensive yardage games are both games this season. We don't have to rely on huge TE receiving games when moving the chains but I do agree we need to target the TE position more. Having Brown and IW are great, but trying to open the field up will make this thing roll even better. Last season between four Tight Ends they had 38 catches. This season we have 5 catches at TE position through 2 games(with some drops and miss throws).

Ford is an asset on this team. He has flaws but majority of the time he is blocking and doing the dirty work on the line. Team player who brings great leadership to the younger position players at TE and OL.

Love just didn't look good friday, Laughery just got cleared Wednesday so tough to throw him out there and Anderson just isn't ready yet.
We overused Brown last Friday. With the way Indiana was cheating up to the line, play action would have made them more honest and give Brown a rest. I hope we will use more PA this week. Got to get our receivers the ball more.

I have no doubt he's a great kid and an asset to the team.
But methinks he's one of those tight ends that as a frosh or soph, should have been told to muscle up and beef up and become a 6'6" 290 lb tackle

its time he has a GREAT game if he is serious about playing on Sundays after college

I just need him to play on Saturday.....care less about him playing on Sundays :ROFLMAO:

Yeah he has not progressed at all on the receiving end. Footspeed and awareness receiving are just average. BB maxes out his strengths and keeps him blocking most of the time. Definitely an asset on that end. I mentioned this in last month but he has gotten a ton of publicity for really not playing that many college football games. Maybe he can use his NIL deal and see if any potential in that field as well if he doesn't move forward with football in the future....

Unfortunately, I was at that game. In fairness to my son-in-law, he was not even born yet ;)
My first game, freshman year! For a while, I thought I must have misremembered something, since it seems impossible that we would open the season with a conference game. But we did.
