UW might have the frontrunner for B1G Freshman of the Year (Mortal Division) in Hannes Steinbach.

Perfect spot for Keaton and David to play with a chip on their shoulders

It does! If we win tonight and look impressive doing it, I'll feel SO much better. I don't need a blowout, but I would like to see great ball movement, everyone touching it, not having the ball stick in Keaton's hands for a bailout, seeing an effort to get the ball into the paint ....yada, yada, yada.

I LOVE beating Purdue on their floor. I'm still relishing it. I LOVE seeing our young man becoming a star right before our very eyes. Every Final Four has a "go to". What I don't necessarily love is the thought that we need a superstar performance night in and night out to win. If he goes 2 of 13 one night, which happens, especially at the college level.....I don't want to be in a rut where we can't score.

So far, we haven't truly felt the loss of Kylan. I think it's unrealistic to think that continues without all hands on deck, scoring in different ways.

I'm not trying to be negative, but I very anxious in what we see tonight.

Except for during the game, Illini and Huskies can love each other deeply.

Honestly man, what are you talking about?

We have 5 guys averaging double figure points:

7 guys above 3.8 rebounds per game:

5 guys shooting above 36% from 3:

14 of our 20 games had a different leading scorer other than Wagler:

This is one of the most balanced teams in the country that also has a bonafide superstar.

It’s currently #4 in KenPom and #6 in NET with a 17-3 record and you need to see MORE out of them?

My dad passed away days ago. Lifetime Illini fan. I went to the U of I, which pleased him greatly. My brother and I are doing a graveside visit/prayer tomorrow.

I haven't been to SFC since it was Assembly Hall. But I'm flying in today so I can be there tonight.

Two old UI housemates of mine pulled some strings and--i'm elated about this--got tickets for my brother and me, on the court. Mid-court. Next to the TV announcers.

Suffice it to say, we've never had seats like that.

Here's hoping we win, and Wagler hangs 50 on UW. But even if they don't, and he doesn't, I'm grateful for my friends and for Illini basketball and for something wonderful to look forward to.
May his memory be a blessing to all of you; may you truly enjoy the seats, fellowship and game; and may you enjoy a decisive Beloved win.

So how did Hoosier fans handle it.

Is Nebraska’s fanbase in a wave of doubt now that they’ve lost a game?

I dont know. I live in Seattle, the fanbase is going to the Super Bowl, and there isn’t a single naysayer I know of.

When teams win out here, people jump on. No questions. Whether it’s the Huskies or Zags, Mariners, Seahawks or even the Sounders or Storm. The Cougs if you’re a Coug. People just celebrate winning.

My old home town always had a reluctance to do this, and I am seeing some of that play itself out in this very thread.

Just enjoy it guys. You’re winners. The floor needs to be raised. The view becomes a lot better.
This has nothing to do with the Super Bowl - it's because they have 'Spoon!

My two schools playing tonight: UI ugrad and UW grad. I’m Orange and Blue, always and forever.

That said, this Husky team has ballers! We can’t overlook that fact.

Their issues? Not physical. I hope we can exploit their finesse while not fouling nor being soft.

Pass up open shots and take hard midrange, contested shots.

Mandaquit can’t shoot! Hannes doesn’t impact the game like his stats suggest he should. Kepnang is a grown man (6th season!) but is just a shot blocker. Don’t let Zoom drive to the rim, make him take midrange shots (which he will).

UW 3 point % is poor and no lights out shooter.

Their strength? Offensive rebounds.

We shoot better across the board if we just play to our average. Glad it’s a home game.

Sure! 3 things I'm watching...

1) I'm interested to see what we do with Steinbach. Do we let him get his like we did with Toppin? Or do we try to get the ball out of his hands?

2) The past 2 games without Boswell have been our highest 3pt attempts of the season. I don't think that's a coincidence. Luckily we are hitting them at a decent clip and offensive rebounding like crazy the last few games. Hopefully this keeps happening and we cruise. But if it doesn't, can we find a way to score inside and/or get to the FT line without Boswell.
For the second point, we have Jake Davis in the lineup with Boswell out… so another shooter. But what I love about this team’s make up is the offensive rebounding. When you are lapping other teams in that facet, your shooters can shoot without a ton of pressure to make the shot. I think we’re seeing the payoff.

Perry, hope you get some nice memories tonight!

I'm interested to see how well they handle the success of the Purdue game. On paper this would be another game in the win streak, but after a big win, a letdown to some degree shouldn't be a surprise.

If he wins POY, I don't know if he will win FOY. A freshman has never won POY so don't know if he would get both.
I think it will be difficult to beat out Smith from Purdue for POY....being a senior and given his track record I'd say it's his to lose....but sure would love to see KW take both and make history

I said he’ll win freshman of the year… he’s frontrunner for that.. I don’t think the original poster mentioned BPOY but I could be wrong.

Big ten POY probably comes down to Smith, Fears, Sanford, Yaxel and Wagler.
