My dad passed away days ago. Lifetime Illini fan. I went to the U of I, which pleased him greatly. My brother and I are doing a graveside visit/prayer tomorrow.

I haven't been to SFC since it was Assembly Hall. But I'm flying in today so I can be there tonight.

Two old UI housemates of mine pulled some strings and--i'm elated about this--got tickets for my brother and me, on the court. Mid-court. Next to the TV announcers.

Suffice it to say, we've never had seats like that.

Here's hoping we win, and Wagler hangs 50 on UW. But even if they don't, and he doesn't, I'm grateful for my friends and for Illini basketball and for something wonderful to look forward to.
Sorry to hear about your dad, but I hope the boys can win one for him tonight!

The 89 team lost those 4 games because Gill was injured in the Georgia Tech game and didn't return until the Iowa game in March. 12 games with out him. Even so they won at #3 Indiana with out Gill. Most would agree that team would have been undefeated if not for Gill's injury.
Had forgotten about that, but the topic was toughness of that team compared to this year's team. It took a tough team to beat Indiana on the road in 89 without Gill but also took toughness to beat Purdue without Boswell. Will see how these boys do the next few games.

I expect Illini to execute and take care of business, with no lapses. Players not giving full effort can have a more willing player on bench take their spot in rotation. Illini need to become a relentless machine, hitting on all cylinders most of the time. Then, they might actually win B1G and play well in Final Four.

I really hope the Krush brings out the "Krush Kurtain" they used last night at the women's game. It was one of the most ridiculous and hilarious ways of distracting free throw shooters I've seen in a long time.

Ummm… that was generational.
With the specific circumstances, more likely never seen before or again.

Maybe worth noting that it's been nearly 2 months since Washington won an away game, but they are very Northwestern-ish in the way they lose. Their average margin of loss over the past six games lost is <10, and in that time they've played Michigan, UM and Nebraska. MSU is the only one to beat them by more than 10 in B1G play.

Essentially, they don't have a great record, but they rarely get smoked.

I just want a win here because it will make B1G basketball that much fun this weekend, as we'll have a 4-way tie between Michigan, MSU, Nebby and us going into the weekend, and will leave the weekend with a 2-way tie (as we play Nebby and Michigan and MSU play on Friday).

They definitely have some talent even with the injuries. It is not one to expect a blow out imo.

These are probably the games I get most nervous for. Talented but underachieving/disfunctional team. Right in between 2 Q1A road games. They will put it all together for at least a few games this year. Could be tonight but this is absolutely a game we need to win if we want to contend for the BIG title and also a top 2 or even a 1 seed. Doesn’t help that Yates torched us last year.

I don’t care how it looks at all, just get the W please.

'expects Kylan back mid-Feb' ... good news re: no change in target return and slipping to end-Feb or later
Honestly, based on what we saw with Jackson Shelstad this year it wouldnt necessarily be a bad thing if they pushed it a week or two to make sure it was fully healthy.

Even if you pushed it back to a March return he would get 2 games and the conference tourney to get back into a rhythm for the NCAA.

I believe the only game that Flying Illini team lost with Kendall Gill was in the national semifinal to Michigan. Their other four losses came while he was out. The Syracuse-Illinois Elite 8 game was of the best games I've ever seen.

Honestly man, what are you talking about?

We have 5 guys averaging double figure points:

7 guys above 3.8 rebounds per game:

5 guys shooting above 36% from 3:

14 of our 20 games had a different leading scorer other than Wagler:

This is one of the most balanced teams in the country that also has a bonafide superstar.

It’s currently #4 in KenPom and #6 in NET with a 17-3 record and you need to see MORE out of them?
Just want to see it without Boswell. That's all I want. I'm not sure how many more we have to go without him, but my #1 concern is foul trouble for Keaton. What other guards can be trusted to really do anything?

I’m curious how “hurt” shelstad even is. He was undoubtedly injured early on and played through it, now I think he’s smartly going to look for a redshirt year.

If this is Dana’s last year btw, and he ever hit the portal. Would love

Forgive me, I’m going back through the thread and am confused. What are you trying to see without Boswell that you haven’t seen exactly?

If the concern is that you want us to look as good without Boswell and Wagler out of the game as well, then I think we might have to accept that

1)I haven't seen foul trouble
2)I haven't seen who eats up a full half of minutes should it come early in the first half.
3)We didn't look particularly good on Braden Smith defensively, but nobody really does. I did like what we did with Coit, so I feel ok that Brad can scheme up help, when needed.
4)When the offense goes sour for a few possessions and the threes aren't falling, who can make sure we don't go on the 5 minute scoring drought by getting to the rim and create plays?

If the answer to all of these questions is Wagler, go back to #1 and #2.

The college game really revolves around your guards, especially the PG. Missing a senior one, who has seen everything, hurts. This is game 3 without him and how we operate is on tape. I'm hoping Wagler goes for 50, praying he doesn't go 1 of 9.

I PROMISE you that I'm not trying to be a Debbie Downer, but if we do have issues and the rationale in the game thread is always that we weren't ready or we're lacking focus....drill deeper than that.

Edit: If we come out and throttle TF out of them....case closed.

I opened a navy Flyin' Illini jersey as an early Christmas present so I could wear it at Braggin' Rights. I then got an orange Script jersey for Christmas, and I wore that one for the first time to attend our game in Evanston so as not to use up all the luck of the navy one! :ROFLMAO: I even made a really bold move of wearing my white Script jersey to watch us play Rutgers even though it has absolutely horrible luck, because RU is that terrible. Well, needless to say, it's gone well since those became my gameday attire options...

Navy Flyin' Illini vs. Missouri
Navy Flyin' Illini at Penn State
White Script vs. Rutgers
Navy Flyin' Illini at #19 Iowa
Orange Script at Northwestern (attended in person)
Orange Script vs. Minnesota
Orange Script vs. Maryland
Navy Flyin' Illini at #4 Purdue

I gotta say ... this feels like it has to be an Orange Script night for Fighter. I need to save up some good luck and bust out the Navy Flyin' Illini for our Sunday showdown with Nebraska, and the boys WILL beat Washington if they come out prepared and execute well.

Okay, back to your regular programming! :ROFLMAO:

Sure, but if we if throttle them tonight, and you we don’t see foul trouble or him out of the game. Would it really quell your fears?

Boswell is one of the better guards in the country, and Keaton an all American. I think the reality is such that without them, we won’t look nearly as good.

I really am just happy with a win tonight. This is a legitimate big time game imo, and i don’t really care how it’s done.
