I just think they poster who replied to mine was saying that we shouldn't be held to MSU's standard of getting better after early losses. I think we should be held to a standard of "yes we must absolutely get better from the losses and not just look at close losses as missed opportunities.

I also agree that our schedule is a great challenge for this team. I think we need to be challenged and hopefully prove we can play at the level of these teams.

I like the way Izzo challenges his teams. I think he holds it over them all season, that they may not as good as they think they are. It's excellent motivation. Those early season games make them think twice about how good they really are.

I would love it if Groce could motivate and develop his teams as well as a HOF coach like Izzo. I get why teams schedule soft, and I think there should be some mix of games. I just wish we were more confident in our ability to make those games count (not necessarily win them, but use them to win more during the season by learning from them).

Anyway, we have a nice stretch coming up, so we'll put that to rest soon.

We didn't schedule soft last year. That would have been pretty cool if not for all the injuries.

Groce has most knowledge of players and situation, but these are my observations from the fanforum universe.

1) To be the team we need to be in the Big Ten it has to be all hands on decks and all players are legitimate threats to score and assist on scores. To me that means JCL needs to start and play major minutes while being a threat to set-up teammates. Tate can be a guy who helps close games out with his free throw shooting and being an extra ball handler. I also think at this point he will be the back-up but Tejon is proving better than I thought in a limited sample size.

2) Black will have to be a rebounding and defensive presence. He had good stats in limited play but will that extrapolate for a full game. Kipper can potentially be a match up problem similar to the former Nebraska player (Shields?) and a lesser extent Hill if he can hit jumpers, run the court, and post up.

We will likely have a 9 man rotation although I favor a 10 with this team. Thorne, Hill, Abrams, Mav, Finke, Black, JCL, DJ, Tate, and possibly Kipper/Jordan/Tejon make the 10th. I think free throw shooting could be a weakness for this team so don't expect our low FT% guys out there during bonus and end of games when we have a small lead.

Kipper and Black are the wild cards at this point, I think we know what to expect from most of the squad. But for this team to be competitive with the top 3-4 teams in the big ten we need these two guys to close the gap on some of our weaknesses(defense, energy, athleticism, atitude).
