Purdue 24, Illinois 17 Postgame

Still think Rutgers is the worst. They got blown out by UMASS who won 0 games last year.

Us being the worst team and it's "not close," definitely isn't true.
We will challenge for it. NW, Iowa, Oregon, Neb, UCLA will all dominate us. Its down to MSU and Maryland. Thats our last 2 chances for a W. Rutgers would beat us.

Bingo …

They had plenty of money to field a 6-6 team … No f’ing excuse …

Our portal and HS evaluation outside of a handful of guys has been absolute 💩 … It’s time for a refresh in the front office …

As far as the coaching … Paying these guys way too much for this JV level coaching …

What’s crazy is how little impact the our highest rated recruits have made since BB has been here. I’m still hopeful that the current freshman can be impact players.

The only way the Montana guys should be on staff is if they are the assistant position coach at that position. Danny Gonzalez and Tony white also run the rocky long defense. We could’ve gotten from their coaching tree instead of relying on the Montana guys

I’m afraid the 3 win / 4 win seasons have returned. Appreciate BB giving it a shot but this program will never be Iowa or Wisconsin unfortunately. Love the potential of the freshman class but afraid Illini won’t be able to $$ hang onto them because of the need to go get portal help. No win situation.

I don't believe Josh will stand for that.

We took huge swings and landed a very talented freshman class. Now the question becomes can we afford to keep them.

A lot of money will be needed for immediate help in the transfer portal.

I truly hope you are right. Josh's first order of business, IMO, is to secure more NIL funding. Full stop. I feel like the whole Gies stadium deal was super, super mismanaged from a timing perspective and just a huge misstep. Josh had to know we were falling behind on NIL, and yet still pushed through that project which the fans by and large really do not care about and know was a terrible allocation of resources.

I did not like offensive play calling. Way different than against OSU, SIU etc. Hauser was not his usual self but offensive line did not protect him either. Game that looked like Bielma & Co just mailed it in and a home game to boot.

Again, the stadium expenditure didn’t take any funding from salaries. It was a designated gift. Josh could have refused it, but this wouldn’t have increased money available to buy talent. It’s just a distraction.

The last 2 years, Luke extended so many drives and was very clutch…and Olano was so good, we were able to win nearly all our one score games. They covered deficiencies elsewhere that have never been addressed.

The D has been on a downward trend as Lovie’s guys have graduated/moved on. And as much as I like BB, prioritizing AHen’s next job over our program’s needs is one of the most selfish things I’ve ever seen.
The Henry soft landing will go down as Bret's Miles Smith linebacker coach move.

Maybe we should sell naming rights for the different units to draw in the big money- rich donors like seeing their names on things. E.g. "The Illinois Gies 3-3-5 Defensive Unit is taking the field". I hate this idea with every fiber of my being, but feel it might be where things are headed (and yes I know that Gies has given far more than just the naming rights money, this was just one of those silly recurring thoughts that I had to get off my chest)

These points were my same thoughts. Take the points, keep them within a 1 score game. Bret made some bone headed CEO decisions today.

The squib kick when you should kick deep, make them run 2x and throw on 3rd down. We gave them 30ish yards of field position where a FG kills you. Just a horrible decision

Houser made a lot of bad throws. Behind guys, off target, too deep. Not sure what was up with him. He has all the arm talent, but today was not good.

Too many missed tackles, over pursuit bad positioning, we got beat to the outside on their first TD when we had help inside.
John Madden always said, never take the points off the board, even if it is a field goal. How many times has it come back to bite a team that didn’t take the points?

I truly think that the UI had to come up with a talking point to compete with Northwesterns getting a new stadium. The worst part of yesterdays game from a tv perspective is that dreadful commenter on the B10 network. Definitely not a UI fan or should he be, but he
should be a little impartial at least.

BTN game production in general is so terrible, it definitely contributed to the "return of the bad old days" feeling of yesterday's game.

It's hard to keep a broadcast clued in and on the rhythm of a game as it's happening, you and I wouldn't be able to walk in off the street and do it, but it should not be beyond the reach of paid professionals, and yet the BTN has stood out in a bad way for years and years.

You would think it would make sense to have someone with a nfl background who understand how to budget a roster. I like X,juice and Bailey. They were all very good players the last several years. But realistically it would’ve made more sense to only bring back 2 of them and spend the money saved on a dominate DT.

If you've been able to move the ball on offense, and it's a shoot out, then I like us going for it rather than settling for a field goal. Early in that game, I was OK with going for it. But late in the game, when it was clear that our offense was off and our defense was actually doing OK, then I thought it was a bad call to not "take" the points to get it to a one-score game.
