Not the Illini team we've seen the last two weeks.Northwestern lost to a Southern Illinois team that's under .500 in the FCS. Illini will blow them out.

Or, remember your expectations for this season back in July.
It sounds more odd than it is.Purduw's defense was called for a bizarre "Disconcerting Signals" penalty, so there's at least one other flag.
There was also a crucial PI called against them on a drive that led to us scoring a touchdown, but let's not let that get in the way of a good old fashioned conspiracy.
I wouldn't be so confident in a W in this one.everyone who thinks we’ll lose to a 1-10 NW team is out of their mind.
Yeah and everyone said illinois would beat michigan state and purdueNorthwestern lost to a Southern Illinois team that's under .500 in the FCS. Illini will blow them out.
Is that with Illini expected loss next week and win vs NW?Us, Purdue, Iowa and Minny all tied at 4-3. Minny still plays Wisc and Iowa; need them to beat Iowa and lose to Wisc. Purdue needs to lose to NW or IU. That (as unlikely as it is) gets us to Indy
A couple of the calls against us were obvious too. The Spoon call was awful. The one at the end of the other drive (I think against Brown) was 50/50.The one where Bryant was tied up on the east sideline with the defender? That was significantly more egregious and could at least be argued as interference.
All of this is correct. The one that bothers me the most is the lack of discipline today. The push out of bounds on the Purdue QB was a back breaker for us. I don't think we ever recovered from that extra 15 yards. The little things matter in a one score game.Extremely disappointed with everyone associated with Illinois Football today.
Monumental, program altering let down. Other than post-Michigan game 2000, I can’t remember a more disappointing season in the history of this team.
Starting with Whitman, who is and will be the greatest AD in school history. Disappointed in how he props up his OC and DC after not even seeing a full season from the OC. Needs to be more Jim Crane and less Ron Guenther.
Bret Bielema: Poorly motivated program. Even more poorly disciplined team.
Ryan Walters. More time buying his own hype and listening to the back slappers.
Barry Looney Jr: Continued lack of creativity. Add another year to the extension after this game. Who says no?
Players: Will never criticize college kids so passing any judgement or criticism of our players. I’ll leave that to the Jared Gelfond/anonymous message board/Rob Rosenthal types.
Brian Barnhardt: Not getting it done on the radio any longer.
Gene Honda: Missing spots and calls left and right
Fans: Showing up late and leaving early all season. Deserve what the bowl committee has lined up.
Parking lot attendants: Not organized
Illinettes: No coordination , dated routines
Band and Barry Houser: Same ol song and dance since 1999.
Illinois Marketing Executive: How can the stadium be so quiet during the game? Why does it look as packed as 2015 vs Middle Tennessee St?
6 penalties 80 yards for Purdue, including a couple of critical PI flags that extended what became touchdown drives for us.Bielma said the officiating crew was same as the Indiana game. Must be IU/PU grads. Those guys were terrible. Other than the Unsportsmanlike calls, I'm not sure Purdue received a penalty. And even as bad as we played, If that Witherspoon pick doesn't get that ridiculous flag, its a much different game. Ugh.
I'm not trying to saying that there is a league wide conspiracy. But the fact is we've had one game ripped away as a win and another (today, with the same crew) that you could argue was taken as well (as either FloridaMan or AutoPoster has laid this out quite well already).A couple of the calls against us were obvious too. The Spoon call was awful. The one at the end of the other drive (I think against Brown) was 50/50.
Was the officiating bad? Absolutely. Is there a league wide conspiracy to destroy Illinois football?
I don’t think this is completely true.Us, Purdue, Iowa and Minny all tied at 4-3. Minny still plays Wisc and Iowa; need them to beat Iowa and lose to Wisc. Purdue needs to lose to NW or IU. That (as unlikely as it is) gets us to Indy
Let's face it. There will be no repercussions against this officiating crew for bad calls. The only thing the Big 10 might do is give them a slap on the wrist for letting the game get out of hand for the half time or post play altercations. I really think that if the Michigan St. stuff didn't happen 2 weeks ago what we saw could have easily escalated. Both of of the ones on Purdue and the 3 on Illinois on the back breaking drive all happened directly in front of me. The ones on Purdue were absolutely no brainer calls. The ones on Illinois were questionable to say the least.
Very respectfully but firmly disagree. This is like saying a publicly traded company had 7 straight quarters of growth followed by 3 or 4 straight quarters of losses. The street evaluates winners based on consistent growth. Just because you grew one q by 5%, the next q by 6% and the q after by 7% doesn’t mean you can then have consecutive quarters of non growth. This season is a huge disappointment and no, not close to a great season.I don’t think this is completely true.
Assuming Illinois goes 1-1 next two weeks (and they could surprise us and beat Michigan!), Purdue has to lose to both NW and IU. Truthfully, I see us beating Michigan as more likely than than Purdue losing to both of them.
Along with Purdue needing to lose both, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota can’t win both of their remaining games.
We’re in a bad spot for winning the west, but I’m okay with it that. Beat Northwestern; win a bowl game.
Still a great season!
Welp....I went to work today. El Paso was fabulous. Now I'm sad, so I'm wearing my ugly Christmas Illini jammies and maybe I'll eat ice cream out of the carton.
Are you really Mr. Blue Hands ?????Very respectfully but firmly disagree. I have quite a bit of confidence in Josh Whitman putting the Big Ten on blast (at least hopefully he'll bring it up to that Kevin Warren clown ) Whitman brought up how unfair it was regarding scUM getting sole possesion of the Big Ten title years ago in bball. This specific crew of refs need to be held accountable.Think about this. The league assigns this crew to this game. The most important game in the West to date. If anyone thinks that is a coincidence then I have a very high bridge down here in FL to sell you.
Good to hear BB address the calls and point out the issues with "this crew." I hope Josh is as good at supporting his program with the league as he is in all other aspects of being the AD, but we will never know if that is the case. The program has to address these situations though. BB is doing his part.
Don't really care if this sounds sad; the truth is there for all who care to see it.
P.S. I, in no way, mean this post to minimize what you are saying about ranting about bad calls. I wish it were not constantly necessary in most any game we participate in; but the Indy game and this game it is painfully obvious that there is a huge problem and it has too much of an impact on the games.
also 2001 Arizona tourney game and Augie in the title gameI'm not trying to saying that there is a league wide conspiracy. But the fact is we've had one game ripped away as a win and another (today, with the same crew) that you could argue was taken as well (as either FloridaMan or AutoPoster has laid this out quite well already).
On top of that, just off the top of my head, there have been several other instances through Illinois sports history that have had lasting impact into the Illinois fans' psyche:
-Playing at Kentucky in the NCAA tourney back in the 80s leading to the rule that teams can't play in their own cities.
-End of game reviews in basketball after the Miami debacle several years back.
-I don't think this one led to any changes (could be wrong) but the Michigan/Illinois football game back in 2000 (2001?) was affected with I believe two blatantly wrong fumble/nonfumble calls.
I can see why people would throw it out there as a possibility, as ridiculous as it might be.
Imma pin this post. Let’s check back in two weeks kingI wouldn't be so confident in a W in this one.
