Hope this aint the Locksley story all over again...
Walters has his head on a little straighter than Mike does.Hope this aint the Locksley story all over again...

Agreed. But why Purdue? Ugh. Now gotta compete with him right in our backyard.Good for Ryan
Kirby smart from bama to Georgia was my first thought. Probably best ever move from coordinator to head coach at highly regarded program.I'm not good with keeping track of coaching moves, but does anyone know if there are many instances of an assistant coach jumping for a head coaching role within the same conference (and division for that matter)?
Edit: Also, congrats to Walters... Not many of those positions out there. Take it while it's offered.
Don't forget Gary Moeller!Kirby smart from bama to Georgia was my first thought. Probably best ever move from coordinator to head coach at highly regarded program.
I guess sarkisian from bama to Texas will count in a couple of years lol.
Tom Herman to Texas.
Tony Eliot from Clemson to Virginia this year.
I guess there may be more than we think. Also I could be inaccurate for a bunch of these
How is it blowing up? We will be more than fine. Have faith in Coach B. This is great news.Very happy to Coach Walters! But on the same note, I'm just mad because everytime we have something good going it blows up. I really really really hope everyone's thoughts on this being a competent coaching staff are true and that we pull in a great DC. Just don't want to revert to the mean.
Off top of my head I thought of Chris Ash from Ohio State to Rutgers, and DJ Durkin going from Michigan to Maryland. Neither of those were a rousing success, but a small sample size. Both similar profiles as Walters as younger, up and coming, strong recruiter typesI'm not good with keeping track of coaching moves, but does anyone know if there are many instances of an assistant coach jumping for a head coaching role within the same conference (and division for that matter)?

I think RW was a great DC and certainly was going to be a HC sooner or later. Im just really surprised Purdue is hiring him right now.Best of luck to Walters. As to Purdue disappointment, I totally get it. Quite frankly, if we had inked a successful assistant instead of Bielema, I don't think I'd have been all that happy. If I'm a Purdue fan and comparing the two hires, I'd say the Illinois AD did a better job than the Purdue AD. Wisconsin as well. Right or wrong, Purdue fans want to see themselves at a higher level which means a more prominent name.
They won't have to deal with it for long. I expect him to take over for Deion in four years anyway.
I've really tried to forget him. But I still wake up screaming!Don't forget Gary Moeller!
There needs to be a new trophy game in the B1G. Gotta be the battle of the picket fence or something.Congrats to coach, look forward to playing you in the future
Gary Moeller from Michigan to Illinois. Hopefully Ryan's jump turns out better.I'm not good with keeping track of coaching moves, but does anyone know if there are many instances of an assistant coach jumping for a head coaching role within the same conference (and division for that matter)?
