They really think that they'll coast on talent alone this season? Why would they just burn like 7.5 million dollars unless they think their season will be saved by a interim coach whose only Hc experience came at the NAIA level....

One of my favorite things in sports is seeing the historically strong team flail once they face adversity and cycle through an endless stream of coaches. See also Manchester United. You're no longer the apex predator. You're just like everybody else now.

So stupid. First they keep him to poison another season because his buy out is so high, then they fire him a couple weeks before the buy out drops.

Sounds like he shouldn't be the only one fired.
It's ridiculous what boosters do to a program sometimes. I'm sure that's what forced the AD's hand. Boosters giveth and they also taketh away.

I really thought the Frost hire was great.

I'm not sure who they can find. Is their NIL base that great? My gut tells me that the boosters in Nebraska are a lot more rational than the ones in Alabama, Texas, etc. It was always remarkable that they could do what they did in the middle of nowhere. I think it's tougher and tougher to do that so I'm not sure who signs up for this job.

Frost was a dead man walking, and after losing to a 24-point dog at home (along with terrible track record), this move makes too much sense to make it now. Having Fox Saturday crew in Lincoln Saturday morning, they do not want the entire narrative to be about Frost's job future on national tv (plus mega donors want him gone). The negative PR of having fans and fire Frost signs on national tv, is another consideration. $7.5M is really nothing when you consider all of these factors.

NIL is for players, not sure how it factors into firing/hiring a coach.

I don't see Frost being a culture fit with Saban. Frost has a history of throwing players/coaches under the bus, making tons of excuses, and just having no accountability whatsoever. Pretty much the opposite of Saban. I could see him taking an offensive coaching position at a another blue blood though.

Would you have considered Lane Kiffin a culture fit as a Sabin assistant?

Would Bielema seriously consider the job? Nebraska is obviously football crazy. Alumni and fan support up the wazoo. Resources to probably double his salary. And as atrocious as Nebby has been for the past decade or so, they are still able to consistently reel in 4 star talent. But they fired Bo Pelini for winning 9 games. Bielema does that here we will build him a statue. And I feel like as bad as our culture has been, theirs is even worse because it’s mistakes/gut punching losses etc with expectations. I don’t know if I would sign up to turn that around

And would Nebraska double Bielema’s salary coming off a 5-7 season and a flame out at Arkansas? Seems unlikely to me but Nebraska is still a big time job. Hope Bret is happy where he is.

Thought Fickell's name would be on the list.

And why would Bielema ever consider it? Perhaps because of the fan base and the alumni support. Just hoping Whitman and the pull of his home state keeps him here.
Honestly, I am more than thrilled with BB so far and was happy with the hire. Would I be happier if we closed out against Indiana? Yes ha. But, let's be real- if Nebraska hired him, it would be seen as underwhelming by both fans, media etc. Plus, I think he learned his lesson in the pressure cooker jobs like Arkansas and Wisconsin. Less pressure to succeed here IMO.
