Spring Football 2016

Just can't get over the fact that Lovie is our Coach. My sister who is an alumnus and lives in Florida doesn't follow sports at all. She knew who Lovie Smith is but didn't know he was now coaching Illinois. He is going to improve recruiting and wins.

On Twitter Robert said the OL will not have set tackle positions. They will flip based on strong side and weak side. Just curious, is this popular in college football? What are the pros/cons compared to playing with set positions?

Speed side vs... This is a common alignment for many teams at the higher levels. They put the fastest/most athletic to one side of the field - the speed side - typically the wide side, but not always. Brennan played speed guard at City College of San Francisco, for example....

I see Lovie refers to NW as our rival up north. Like Mackovic, Zook and yes Beckman, our coach has tOSU ties

He actually did the same thing with the Bears. From day one, made measuring themselves against GB a priority.

Since I cant find this subject elsewhere I will ask it here and see if anyone knowledgeable has an answer. Does anyone know how the redshirt lineman "Meggison" from Jacksonville is coming along? I know he was highly ranked when we got him, but I have heard nothing since then about his progress. Just wondering if he will play this year. Thanks

People are calling him a future pro. They're saying he's a mauler, but will have his speed bumps this year

He's a tentative starting guard. Typically don't hear a heck of a lot about redshirts. Think expectations are high.

Yes, he will play. Here's an early report from spring practice that has him in the starting lineup.

6 posts above you. Megginson played first string in first spring practice.

Anyone planning on attending the Spring Open Practice? Anyone know a good place to tailgate (aside from Grange Grove)? :shield:

Butkus was the first Illini coach to reach out to him so he is familiar with Megginson. This staff has got megginson excited about the future again and is starting to putting in the extra work to be successful. Look for him to only get better.

As long as Zach Heath is healthy, I feel very comfortable with our top 7 lineman next year.
