Why not let Reynolds start everyday and give him till the all star break to perform....when he was tearing it up coming off the bench a few weeks ago, everyone was wanting to bench adams and start reynolds...so give him a month and a half...if it doesn't work out, go see if you can get a power guy for a few months...a name I wouldn't mind seeing is Chris Davis from Baltimore. His contract is up after this year, and they wouldn't want too much from him. Now this depends on if the Orioles are still in contention, you can scratch that idea. But definately don't replace reynolds with someone at lesser or equal value...Garrett Jones is aweful..wouldn't give any minor leaguer for him.

For all the hype Chicago got for its minor leaguers, I would much rather have the Wacha/Martinez duo over Russell/Bryant (who will be great players too). Pitching always wins and the Cardinals have two aces under the age of 25. That's insane.

Oh, and there's a couple more in the minors just gaining experience that will be very good as well.

Yep. As pitching "great" Bob Veale once said, "Good pitching will always beat good hitting -- and vice versa." :thumb:

So I think we just had the most ugly loss possible for the entire season...so I guess it's good it's out of the way

Pretty ugly, all right. Playing at home, holding the team with the worst record in the majors to just one run and still losing. It has to go up from here.

Two back to back games with stellar pitching from our young hurlers (Wacha, Martinez). We know what we have with Wacha but man, Martinez is really starting to become dominant. Definitely a keeper with that plus fastball and nasty slider.

Has Matheny or Mozeliak said anything about having an innings cap on Wacha or Martinez for they year? Both are young, Martinez is in his first year as a starter, and Wacha was injury plagued a year ago. I'm concerned that one or both of them could burn out before the playoffs.

I would like to see a skipped start or two during the dog days, especially if the lead continues. A "6th" starter for a month would be a nice break.

Marco will probably be that guy. By the way, anyone else pretty pleased with Reynold's play at first base so far? I think he's done very well in the field.

Reynolds is making Mo look prescient, and that's a good thing. I agree that his play in the field has been good plus his hitting, so far, has been acceptable.

I agree with you. I think Mo is doing the right thing here and letting Mark have an opportunity and not coming off as desperate to other teams. There is no question we need to gather another first basemen, but let's hope he does his due diligence and finds the right piece. I still contend we call the Rockies in a few weeks to check on Morneau. Hopefully his concussion symptoms will clear up. He is in his last year of his contract and think we might be able to get his bat on the cheap.

I have heard about the possibility of adding Ryan Howard, but have also heard Howard is not close with his family in St. Louis and wouldn't really want to play here every day. Don't know how true that is, but just some things I have heard.

Howard seems expensive, although that could be mitigated some way I suppose. Morneau is interesting to think about, if the acquisition cost is reasonable as well as the health issue resolved. The wild card is Holiday getting ojt at first, which gets less grossly speculative sounding and more "hmmm, interesting" as Grichuk, Bourjus and Jay vie for playing time. Reynolds versatility is a great thing to have.

If I'm the Cardinals I avoid going after Howard. Yeah, he's a hometown guy but he has performed nowhere near where he should have since he got his big payday. Hasn't hit more than 30 HRs since 2011 (granted part of the reason has been due to injury) and has hit below .230 in 2 of the 3 seasons prior to this one.

I'm not sure we do need another. If Grichuk keeps improving then Matheny is going to want him in the lineup everyday. Move Holliday or Jay to first so we can uncrowd or crowded outfield. But I agree, if we can get someone like Morneau on the cheap that would be awesome.

Can't just move someone to the infield so easily. I would love for thme to get Holliday out of the outfield, but if he can't field grounders or the other essentials of playing first then it's not worth it. Same goes for Jay or anyone else. They need time practicing that position and best time to do that is in the off season and in spring training.

Timely hitting in the 8th and Cards take the lead into the 9th. Carpenter, Holliday, Peralta, Reynolds all big. Rosenthal time here soon.

Something about this team, I feel like I say it every year, but there is no quit. They all matter and am just happy the team approaches every game the same.
