What a great win tonight! It was good to see grichuk come through with the 13th homer in the 13th. He is growing and getting better every game.

I heard a national guy last night who brought up Grichuk for possible ROY, since Bryant and Pederson have gone south.

His stats are definitely good enough to at least be in the conversation with the other 2. I'm guessing Grichuk has a lot less AB's, but now that he's been playing everyday he should be getting more attention.

Both he and Matt Duffy deserve consideration, but there's too much hype to overcome surrounding bryant and Peterson imo

Hopefully, Grich will have the advantage of shining in October when the others are prepping their golf bags.

Pirates on fire right now: 11-4 after July 22nd. Hope the Cards can at least take two of three.

Well they're a really good home team and 10 of those games were at home where they went 8-2. Only .500 on the road this season.

The nice thing is that only one Card win and Pitt leaves 4 games back. Two wins is gravy.

And I am ready for some gravy! Great win! Rosie on the 3K close!

Grichuk to DL. Maybe this conditioning/Training staff needs an upgrade? Unreal number of injuries.

Heyward just now out of the game tonite. Can't take another injury.

On a good note, Adam Wainwright is close to throwing off a mound. But Grichuk is a big blow. Him and Piscotty have been our 2 best players recently.

It is unreal how they keep finding ways to win. It really goes to show that pitching and great defense win a lot of games. The offense is average at best, especially lately, and the injury bug has been biting all year.

And yet some sports writers keep implying that the Cardinals are "lucky".

As a non-Cards fan, I don't think they mean "lucky" in terms of avoiding injury. I think they mean "lucky" in that despite all the injuries, the 2015 Cardinals are still on pace for 104 wins. That's just unbelievable. That puts them on a plane with the 2004 Cardinals team.

Surely, you don't think that this team with all the injuries is on the same level as that one in terms of talent?

By the way, I'm not saying it's luck. More like unrivaled organizational depth. I'm just saying where the people who do say it's luck are coming from.

I have no opinion of the Cardinals or the Cubs. But last nights error and almost-HR were lucky for the Cardinals.

I read an article at the beginning of the year about how the Dodgers approach their roster construction at the 40 man expanded-level with the idea that over the course of 162 games, you are going to end up needing just about all of them.

I'd imagine the Cardinals have some similar thoughts for organization construction, not to mention some of the best minor league coaching/development in the league...And I am not a Cardinals fan

No, the articles I am referring to, written by rather shallow sports reporters (and there are a lot of them these days) never mention injuries -- that was the whole point of my post. They simply whine about how the Cardinals keep winning in spite of weak hitting, not scoring that many runs, winning games they shouldn't win, bad breaks by their opponents, etc. And I don't think even shallow sports writers would classify the development of "unrivaled organization depth" in any organzation as "luck". By the way, nowhere in my post do I even address the talent level of the current team, let alone compare it to the 2004 club.

I would say having a pitching staff that allows a .194 avg and .241 BABIP with runners in scoring position qualifies as being lucky.
