OK, I was hoping for single digits in the magic number by this morning. It stands at 10 with 13 left to play. I am looking for 5 wins in the next 7 games against the Reds and Brewers, have to beat up on the bottom of the division. Then we can finish it up early next week against the Pirates. Thoughts?

Are you referring to clinching the division? Have the cards already clinched a playoff spot? Cubs magic number is four for wild card so I am guessing cards are in.

Too lazy to look up I admit

The Reds brought in a lefty to pitch to Adams, so Matheny went with Holliday. It's a pretty straight forward decision.

Adams wasn't announced yet and the point I'm making is you can tell, especially during that at bat, Holliday isn't ready. At that point, the Cardinals were losing and needed the ball to be put in play. I'm sure other options were available, like Garcia.

Garcia is also LH

Yes, I was talking division and homefield through NL playoffs.

Cards' magic number to win the division is now 8. Winning the division, of course, would give them the home field advantage throughout the NL playoffs.

Entering the playoffs, has the best team in baseball ever had this many question marks? Can Holliday and Adams get their timing back? Can Piscotty, Grichuk, and Pham still make big impacts in the postseason (especially Pham)? Who will be in the starting rotation? Can Wainwright have an impact as a reliever? How will Yadi recover from his injury? I can't wait for October!

Not that I can remember. Its nuts how many injuries we have had. But we are resilient.

Can Holliday and Adams get their timing back?
Mainly want Holliday to get the timing back. I want Adams coming off the bench; he's much more effective/dangerous off the bench.

Can Piscotty, Grichuk, and Pham still make big impacts in the postseason (especially Pham)?
We won't know until the postseason. We saw glimpses of Grichuk last postseason, and his potential. Hopefully, he builds off that. Cause we all know we need his bat, BADLY.

Who will be in the starting rotation?
  1. Lackey
  2. Martinez
  3. Wacha
  4. Garcia

My best guess in order who I think ti should be.

Can Wainwright have an impact as a reliever?
We can hope, but I can't see that much of an impact. I don't want him on the postseason roster, actually. I would rather him take more time to get healthy for the 2016 season.

How will Yadi recover from his injury?
We'll find out his actual prognosis on Sunday whether he can play or not.

I can't wait for October!
Neither can I!!! Love October baseball. Will probably head down to BPV for a few games.

If wainwright gets a few innings out of the bullpen and looks ok you can bet your azz he will be on the postseason roster. Similar to Wacha last year. No way Matheny leaves him off. He's almost more of a lock than Kozma, lol.

Nice to see the team beat up tonight on a team they should beat up on. Some guy who's name I can't even pronounce just got a hit in his first AB, gotta love that. Hopefully Colorado can get a win for us and we knock 2 games off tonight.

He looked like a genius hire when everyone was hitting .330 with RISP...

That was nothing more than a statistical anomaly. The power outage of the last few seasons is very real.

As for playoff roster, what's everyone think?

Here's what I've kinda been thinking on:
Batters. Pitchers
Molina Lackey
Adams Martinez
Wong Wacha
Peralta Garcia
Carpenter Lynn
Holliday Rosenthal
Grichuk Siegrist
Heyward Maness
Cruz Choate
Reynolds Cishek
Garcia Waino/Broxton
Piscotty
Pham
Moss

I didn't really know what to do about that 25th spot whether another pitcher would be better or hitter, so I went with moss, and put Broxton after Waino if Waino can't go. Also, I don't have the starters in any particular order, one will have to be in the pen, after the way Lynn looked tonight it's going to be a tough decision.

Who am I kidding, kozma and jay will make the squad, lol

I don't want Broxton anywhere near the mound in the playoffs. Give me Belisle instead.

I would also probably keep Bourjos on the roster instead of Moss. PB would be a nice defensive replacement late in close games. I'm not sure what positives Moss would bring to the table. A power threat off the bench I suppose, but he's been terrible.

Agreed. Bourjos will be on the roster for sure. He can also pinch run.

Agree on both bourjos and broxton, but as much as mike likes to use broxton I figure he'll go with him. Hopefully Waino can go and the point will be moot.

Broxton needs to take the first flight out of town come postseason. He'll walk everyone, and he scares the chit out of me.
