I know, I was asking about the money. Can you guys afford Zobrist and Heyward? Actually, I know you can afford both but will you spend the money?

I figured the Castro deal was also clearing some cash. I hope there is some way the Cardinals can keep Heyward but he is asking for a pretty substantial sum and a lot of years. It seems to me the Cubs are operating more like the Cardinals always have... I hate that.

What are everyone's thoughts on the Cards going after Yoenis Cespedes? For whatever reason, I don't hear too much about him. He's an amazing talent.

Not sure but I think they have more money in Zobrist per year than what they had left in Castro.

Yeah I think I read on one of the Chicago sites that they'd have to shed a serious amount of money with some of the players that they have in coming years to pay. I think all their rumored interest in him is all rumors to drive up the price but that's just me

Love his talent, but don't want him around the team. There's a reason why he'll be on his 5th team in 4 or 5 years.
Yeah. The reason is that he had a very team-friendly contract that made him the subject of many trades...along with his production that has never really been outstanding, except with the Mets.

Looking at what the Diamondbacks gave up for Shelby Miller, is it fair to say we didn't get enough for Miller?

Braves end up with our Jenkins plus the haul from the Diamondbacks. Hart is killing it.

Also, the Miller trade shows how much TLR and Duncan like Miller.

What the DBacks gave up for Shelby was crazy. We did well, the Braves absolutely fleeced them

The braves got the better end of the deal, from my perspective right now. We got JHey and walden. If we re-sign JHey then it's a win for us, but if he signs elsewhere, it's a loss for us. The braves got Jenkins and Miller, than flipped Miller for some big prospects. As the way it stands, they absolutely won the trade

With all the Diamondbacks gave up, they still must be chomping at the bit for the season to get here. Great offense last year but weak pitching. They seem to be shooting for 16!

Moz - Aquino and Gyorko.....that's all you got? Apparently you're going to hoard all my $9.50 per beer money.

Don't forget Pena. Him and Gyorko are big additions IMO. But obviously we aren't done this offseason.

Here's an interesting article about Cueto. I'd be willing to give him a chance, mistakes happen. But I think whoever gets him will overpay. He turned down a Dbacks offer of 6yrs, $126 mil.

Do not want cueto at all. Especially for that money, he's already lost velocity and has conditioning issues. No thanks.

Really getting nervous about Heyward. Seeing a lot of quotes (one from DBacks GM) saying that he is looking for 200M.

edit: found it
@DGoold: #DBacks GM Dave Stewart, during a presser about Miller trade, casually drops info that Heyward is "looking for $200 million." #Cardinals

I'm sorry, but why would anyone ever think that? That's beyond ridiculous.

Really the only time something like that comes into play is a guy who's played for a single organization his whole career and takes a TAD less to end it there. Guys would go play in Antarctica for an extra $30-$40 million they don't care.

Maybe not so beyond ridiculous. MLB tonight guys just talked about how Cardinals generally won't make a top offer but extend lower offers hoping guys want to play in StL. Guess that's why we don't announce very many top guys on free agency.
