For only 2nd time this season, and first in a victory, the Cardinals pitching staff allowed 0 walks in tonight's 8-2 victory over Cleveland. The only other time it happened this season was in the complete game loss Wainwright had in late April vs. the Phillies.
This is just sad man.

I guess I should continue to crap on TON, especially if he is going to make my comments of him being expendable look foolish.😂😂

I guess we could get rid of Carlson. (Please don't Cards!)

This weekend's pitching match-ups for Cardinals-Cubs at Wrigley:

-Friday: Oviedo (0-2, 5.25) vs. Hendricks (7-4, 4.59)
-Saturday: Gant (4-3, 2.63) vs. TBD
-Sunday: Martinez (3-6, 6.21) vs. Davies (3-3, 4.45)

With Wrigley opening back to up 100% capacity this weekend, that place is gonna be a zoo for all 3 games.

And we send our 3 best starters. Lol

I’m not feeling warm and fuzzy about this series.
I'm warm and if I'm not careful I might get fuzzy but after the Cards have played so poorly I don't expect them to do much this weekend either.

This is going swimmingly. Think management realizes yet that we need starting pitching? And bullpen help?

I notice Gant playing with his hair after most of his pitches. Maybe he should cut it and he could focus more on pitching.

I have been explaining what has been going on with the pitching staff this season to my White Sox fan in laws and they either didn’t believe me or gloss over it. Watched the game last night with them and the amount of “oh wows” and “you have to be kidding me” on the walks issued I think got the message to them. The best comment, “the defense seems pretty good, and the best fail 7 out of 10 times, why not pitch to contact”?
Novel idea, isn’t it?

Man thus seems like a great idea. Why haven't the pitchers thought of this?
kind of just like why havent hitters adjusted, and start hitting to the opposite field to stymie the shift.

but every hitter these days wants the homer or the double, and every pitcher thinks he can get 7-8 K's a game.

I’m sure it has been discussed. 😂😂

On a positive note, Andrew Miller looked good. Would have been real nice if our gold glove potential second baseman was playing second base. I know it was only an extra 4 pitches, but 4 completely unnecessary pitches.

I think the Cardinals’ organization is just a mess. The decline since LaRussa left wasn’t quick but it certainly has devolved to a club with more questions than answers. I think we need someone new providing the algorithms. I believe Mo is always reactionary and poor at building a roster.

Derrick Goold was asked in his chat today about a few different topics and these were the bits that I found most interesting:

-He said Cardinals should make trades for two pitchers. One should be to see what Texas' asking price is for Kyle Gibson and see if they can match it. The 2nd trade would be to add some pitching depth at Triple A.
-He also brought up the potential of DeJong being used as trade bait at the deadline with the emergence of Edmundo Sosa and also a player like Delvin Perez waiting in the wings (though admittedly Perez is still at AA).

Just to add something else on here...For those who think they should try and bring up Matthew Liberatore or Zach Thompson from AAA, that's complicated by a couple of different issues. First are their stat lines thus far. Liberatore is currently 1-3 with a 4.73 ERA. Thompson is 0-4 with a 9.51 ERA. In addition, Liberatore is set to be part of the U.S. Olympic baseball team. If he gets called up to the majors, then he can't play in the Olympics.
