If nothing else, Cardinals need to make some hay between now and the 4th of July. Starting tonight, they face the Marlins, Braves, Tigers, Pirates, Diamondbacks, and Rockies. All those teams are currently under .500. They should at least have the opportunity to make up some ground.

Overall, a nicely constructed and executed game (where the pen actually held up). It’s so hard to watch the team in this stretch. The clubhouse just seems tired. As a side note, it m really excited by the improved at-bats by O’Neil. He’s quietly been turning into one of the most reliable players on the team. His defense had been solid too.
Tonight was just Groundhog day all over again. Bad pitching; no offense.

Is the season over yet? This team has flaws that I don't think can be fixed during the season. I mean worse flaws than 2011.
This team actually has a worse record at this point in the season than the 2006 and 2011 teams at the same point in their respective seasons. 2006 team was 42-27. 2011 team was 40-33.

We all knew last winter that pitching and outfield production needed to be addressed. Arenado was an easy yes for ownership and front office. I think they are less skilled in the more nuanced moves required to build a roster. Maybe they need to try hacking again.

I may go back to my old rule of ignoring the baseball season until after the Fourth, but in this division, they will likely have me paying too much attention to a team that will "stay in it", with little hope of advancing. June has been a very rough month for the Redbirds. I may not be opposed to selling a couple of pieces at the trade deadline, if they had anything worth selling, that will not be a part of the 2022 team. Pitching is no longer looking very deep. Or, at least, not deep and talented.

Was reading an ESPN.com article about one player that each team should trade for. They suggested the Cardinals should trade for Joey Gallo due to the lack of production they've gotten from right field.
Which I'd agree with...were it not for the fact that Carlson hasn't played most of the season in right due to Bader's injury and them being forced to play people like Justin Williams and Austin Dean in right.

I agree. If Bader weren't injured we might need CF instead. Lol.
Bader is never going to play because of his offensive abilities. He's a great defender. To be fair too, he was starting to hit a little better before this most recent injury. And even in the limited ABs he had had, he had cut down his strikeout percentage quite a bit.

It was more about people would be complaining about him instead. I love Bader and believe his defense should play all the time. But somehow the narrative would make him out to be a weakness.
Cardinals need to look for upgrades period. Harrison is an offensive liability. His numbers looked better earlier this year but he was slumping before the injury. He is exciting to watch play CF but there has to be someone that could play defense and hit a slider or lay off it.

Today's game just got to me. I'm not sure why this, of all the terrible games, got to me. Detroit is terrible. We should be able to handle them. I completely lost all hope in Gant. As soon as he gave up those walks, in my head, I thought, "there goes the game". Long behold, the walks came home. Nolan has got to be frustrated. He's had his own slump, but when he does hit well and give us an early boost, the pitching immediately gives it away; the Same thing with Goldy, the same thing with O'Neil. The only pitcher I trust right now is Wainwright, and that's saying something. In the last few seasons, the offense hasn't been good, but our defense made up for it - a lot of 2-1 or 3-2 games. This season, we are totally exposed. If our starting pitching were better, the bullpen wouldn't be as taxed. The position players wouldn't be over swinging or pressing as hard. One issue compounds another.
All of the little issues have accumulated into one big mess. The front office needs to intact a plan, either sell or buy, but it needs to happen now. Shildt might not survive this either. He doesn't seem to be equipped at making all the small ball decisions to help the guys out. The pitchers seem to be out there one batter too many. If Tony was managing this team, we might win a few more games, but it wouldn't be enough. As the team sits on 6/23, the only manager I see having the skill to fix this kind of mess is Joe Maddon.
I have 2nd-row tix behind the Rockies dug-out next weekend. I was soo pumped when I bought them a few months ago. At this point, I only hope the team doesn't get embarrassed. But, at least Coors is a fun place to enjoy a game.

I want to go but the tix are too expensive. I normally sit section 115 row 1 and most of the resale tickets are over 100 a piece and I have a family of 5. But I feel you on worrying about getting embarrassed.
Tickets are higher because it's Arenado's 1st games back there, no?
