And even though they're basically done as far as having any chance in the division (even with having 13 games left against the Brewers, they're still 10 games back), they're only 4.5 games back of the Padres for the 2nd wild card spot.
My response as a Cubs fan....Do the Cubs have it in them to win 3 in a row?
He's right handed and I see him grab his hair (both the left and right side of his hair.) with his left hand a lot more than his right hand. He then puts it in his glove. He he was trying to deek the umps they would see the gunk in his glove when they finally do check him.I wonder if the umpires check Burnes hair? He runs his hand through it after every pitch.

Sure! This first base umpire was clueless on Arenado’s check swings. Another game were the home plate umpires strike zone is so erratic.Would you be okay with 2 out of 3?

It's been a bad year. And Jack is injured again. Doom
that is the story of this season, too many injuries to Jack, Martinez, and Mikolas. impossible to replace 3 starters. And Jack is injured again. Doom
For the money that they pay the players, they should go ahead and hire and pay an experienced manager that has hit the mountain tops. Doesn't mean every year, but someone who has at least managed in the WS, if not won. Finding one of them that is available, and not past their prime is the hard part. I would think that most would appreciate management that never mails it in, and the media is pretty benign, compared to some other markets. Of course, management doesn't always go for it either, so, that could be a pull back.I was ready to release him a couple of months ago.
I said it before St Louis SHOULD be a destination franchise. They should only look for the very best managers not someone who has never managed in the majors and hopefully he will be ok but who knows for sure?
I don't need a WS appearance. Just get to the playoffs a few times. I remember Whitey being released by KC because he couldn't beat the Yankees with their bag of gold so the Royals management thought he was a bust. I understand Whitey was a generational manager. I don't expect to land someone like him (after all he reinvented the game for the old Bush Stadium). but surely there is a manager out there with experience that can guide this team. For the money that they pay the players, they should go ahead and hire and pay an experienced manager that has hit the mountain tops. A lot of money coming off of the books. If the team does part ways with Shildt, hiring a "name" manager can help recruit free agents. I know, it is mostly about money, but players want to win too.Just really hope the front office doesn't fall back on a justification to do nothing like "we were in the wild card hunt despite lots of injuries to our pitching staff" or something. This season has been a massive disappointment and whatever the plan here was, it didn't work. The division should have been winnable this year, full stop.

Dang, you're right. Payroll really needs to increase for this team to compete. Is there a lot of money coming off the books? It looks to me like Molina’s extension plus arbitration estimates put the Cardinals right back at the ~$130MM payroll next year that they are this year (assuming they don’t pick up Carpenter’s option, which they won’t) before signing a single free agent.
