The wild pitch before showed he needed to be taken out. That was pure laziness not covering 1st base.

PHOENIX — The day Stan Musial had two hits in the same inning to leap ahead of Ty Cobb and into sole position of the all-time lead in total bases, he said he had not “paid much attention” to that record.
“But my friends tell me it will eventually be the one I will prize the most,” Musial said, according to reports at the time.
It was one that continued to define consistent excellence, became a signature statistic for an elite and complete hitter, and it had staying power.
For 60 years, ever since June 1962, Musial’s 6,134 total bases ranked first or second all-time in career total bases, surpassed only by Hank Aaron (6,856). The two legends have been joined by a Cardinal, one Musial would find familiar. He watched him take flight.

With a home run in the second inning Saturday night at Chase Field, Albert Pujols caught and surpassed Musial’s total base number, moving to 6,137 for his career. And he wasn’t done. Pujols’ home run in the fourth inning gave him 692 for his career, four more total bases, and put him eight homers shy of 700, five of tying Alex Rodriguez. Pujols lined a single off the left-field wall in the sixth to reach midgame with 6,142 total bases.
The Cardinals’ game finished after this edition, but at deadline Pujols had his second multi-homer game of the week and six homers in his previous 10 days.
Greeted by fans calling his nickname, “The Machine,” as he took the field for batting practice, Pujols entered Saturday’s game one base shy of “The Man.” With one out in the second, he drilled a pitch from veteran lefty Madison Bumgarner to the nook of seats in center field at Chase. His second home run came off the same pitcher and landed in the same area. The eight total bases on two swings gave Pujols 6,141 for his career. He got there with 692 homers, 16 triples, 681 doubles, and 1,963 singles.

Sixth-inning update: Make that 6,142 total bases and 1,964 singles.

PHOENIX — By the time the scoreboard had calmed, the crowds’ ovations had quieted, and the overstuffed box score had been printed, the Cardinals’ victory Saturday night at Chase Field had featured a whirlwind of events.
Displays of power? Check.
Sublime defense? Check.
Pitching intrigue? Check.
Late-game pitching intrigue? Check.
Rallies? Check. And check again. And check again.
A young player in full flight? Check.
A hometown kid getting booed without doing anything? Check.

A slump-crunching grand slam? You bet.
An MVP homer and 100th RBI? But, of course.
But shining above all that frenzy as the Cardinals romped in Arizona for an 16-7 victory and won their sixth consecutive game – to the surprise of no one who has been watching the calendar unfold into legend – was Albert Pujols.
The Cardinals’ designated hitter cracked two home runs, finished with four hits, and along the way surpassed a record once owned by Stan Musial. His 10 total bases gave him 6,143 for his career, nine more than Musial and second only to Hank Aaron in major-league history. With his 691st and 692nd home runs, both of Madison Bumgarner, Pujols moved within eight of a mark first reached by Babe Ruth. And, in the sixth inning, he lined a ball off the left-field wall that could have left the ballpark if it didn’t singe a few hats with its low launch angle.

He became the oldest player in major-league history to have four hits and two home runs in the same game, according to Baseball-Reference.com.

I was getting ready to turn in for the night (my grandsons wore me out.) when Albert came up for his second AB. I told my son and daughter in law that I would wait until after his at bat. He didn't disappoint.
I woke up and saw it was the middle of the 8th and StL had a comfortable leadso I went back to sleep.
I was a bit surprised by the final score. What a fun 9th inning.
Today we are taking my older grandson to his first baseball game. Class A game because we don't expect him to watch very much. I bought tickets close to the in ballpark playground.
For nearly 2 months he's been telling us what he wants to eat.
"Popcorn, cotton candy and ice cream in a baseball helmet."
As Harry Caray use to say, "You can't beat fun at the old ball park!”

Took my 3 and 5 year olds to an unaffiliated team (Chicago Dogs) earlier this summer and it was a lot of fun. They were into it longer than I expected. Hope you all have a great time!

My Dad took his 9 year old son (me) to his first professional baseball game: The Pittsburgh Pirates vs. the St. Louis Cardinals in Busch Stadium 1 (Sportman's Park). Good game, the Cardinals winning 10-4, lots of fun, and it sealed my fate as a lifelong fan of the Cardinals.

C. B. Bjuckner and Angel Hernandez are without a doubt the worst umpires I have ever seen in the major leagues...........and it's not even close to me.....

JMHO ........the ump who got his head clocked in that game a few games back with the cardinals is bad , but Buckner and Angel are the worst....... I have no idea if the automated strike zone thingy will be better overall but at least have it for when these 2 are behind the plate.....................

Yeah, per umpscorecards.com Bucknor has the worst accuracy of any ump who's called more than 1 game this season.
