I like the broadcast today, fortunately I have peacock. Jimmy had a lot of air time to talk about himself, but they did ask him a lot of questions in his defense. I like ballgame, I do feel like you learn something from him.

Nice to get our first sweep this season. Feel like we have let a few get away this year. Biggest change I would make currently is switching Gallegos for Helsley.

It will be interesting in the moves that are made. Keep our heads above water the next two weeks. Hopefully get Jack back soon and that will be like making a trade without actually making one. We are a TON, quality starter, and reshaping of the bullpen away from being next level.

Jason Benetti is a really good play-by-play broadcaster too. Obviously baseball wise if you ever get a chance to tune into a White Sox game, he's definitely worth listening to (and his color commentary partner Steve Stone is pretty good too).

I think I even remember him doing some Illini hoops games this year with Robbie Hummel on ESPN.

PITTSBURGH — When it was all over, after the Cardinals had excised the “Jolly” out of Pittsburgh’s “Jolly Roger” victory flag in an 18-4 rout of the Pirates despite the fact they trotted out a lineup that you might never see again, the debate raged on. Who was the best (worst?) pitcher between sure Hall of Famer Albert Pujols and almost certain Hall of Famer Yadier Molina?
Neither started this game but Pujols the all-time best hitter in PNC Park at .373 with 32 homers, most by a visiting player, popped two homers after coming into the game as a designated hitter halfway through the action as he gave Nolan Arenado a rest.
“They’re going to need Nolan more than they need me,” Pujols said “Nolan plays every day. This is not about me. It’s never been about me. I never took a swing all day. I came up here (to the clubhouse), put my shoes through two or three strings and I was ready to go.”

Pujols thus passed Hall of Famer Willie Mays for third place all-time in total bases at 6,071. “To be mentioned in the same sentence is pretty special,” Pujols said.
Closer to home, Pujols went into third place ahead of another of his idols, Hall of Famer Stan Musial, for extra-base hits at 1,378. That one of the homers, a three-run shot in the ninth, came off a position player in second baseman Josh VanMeter, didn’t matter to Pujols. No. 683 for his career counted just as much as the others.

PITTSBURGH — The doctors’ office was going to be a busy one Sunday night in St. Louis as the Cardinals returned from a successful weekend on the field here. They have won 27 of their past 32 games at PNC Park against the Pittsburgh Pirates, whom they drubbed 18-4 on Sunday.
Not only was outfielder Dylan Carlson to undergo an MRI for a tight left hamstring sustained on Saturday, but left-hander Steven Matz was added to the list after he lasted only four pitches Sunday before coming out because of a stiff left shoulder.
Matz, whose fastball velocity was down three miles an hour, had shoulder discomfort in 2020 and 2016 with the New York Mets but not last season with Toronto when he was 14-7. He never has had shoulder surgery.

Right-hander Angel Rondon, just activated from the taxi squad, was called on immediately to replace Matz. He finished a strikeout of Ke’Bryan Hayes and then allowed a hit and a walk but escaped the first inning.
Having gained his bearings, Rondon, who features a fastball of 92 to 94 mph, a slider and a changeup, didn’t allow a hit over the next four innings and was stretched to 88 pitches over five innings as he recorded his first major league victory. He hadn’t gone any longer than four innings at Memphis.
“That was incredibly important for him to do what he did today,” said manager Oliver Marmol. “It just seemed like he played catch for a while.”

You are correct, him and Stoney are two of the best. I remember a few years ago Benetti got partnered with Walton. I felt bad for Jason.

I know the color commentator is a matter of taste. Jim Edmunds is okay. I can not stand Brad Thompson. I like listening to the radio commentators, when I am in the car.

Danny Mac did the radio yesterday as well. It was fun to hear him and Ricky back together again. There was a pretty hilarious moment in the 9th when VanMeter (sp?) was pitching. It went something like this.

Danny Mac: And here's the pitch by VanMeter taken for a ball, and it didn't even register on the gun.
(long pause)
Horton: What are you looking at me for?

Horton being a former soft tossing LH, it made for a great radio moment.

Maaaaaaan, Dickerson single handedly ending a promising bottom of the ninth. I really didn't like this signing at the time and even I thought he'd be better than this.

On the other end of the spectrum, Brendan Donovan is awesome.

Unflinching in his devotion to leave at-bats behind and not let any result – good, bad, or blech – leak into many, Paul Goldschmidt did not fixate Monday on the unforgiving math of his first four plate appearances. He didn’t measure the sunk costs of three strikeouts or the five outs he caused, calculating instead the one opportunity he’d have to dramatically change the game.
Goldschmidt knew the only way he would bat in the 10th inning was with the bases loaded and two outs. That’s it. If the inning kept going, he’d have that one chance to end it.
He turned a single moment into a grand display.
Goldschmidt, his evening leaden with three strikeouts and then a double play, turned on 90-mph slider and drilled it for a walk-off grand slam to launch the Cardinals to a 7-3 victory against the Toronto. An inning after Nolan Arenado’s liner off that same left-field wall caused a premature pop of fireworks above the Busch Stadium scoreboard, Goldschmidt ignited all the fireworks and ruckus the home ballpark could muster after the Cardinals’ first extra-inning win of the year.

“Five outs in four at-bats – that’s not what you want to do,” Goldschmidt said after the game, lowering his chin to fight a grin. “Honestly, I was telling myself, ‘Play some good defense. I may get a chance if that inning comes up.’ Bases loaded. Two outs. It’s my only shot to hit right here. (I was) preparing for that at-bat.”

The mlb tonight crew did a cool breakdown of Goldies at bat. Harold Reynolds kept talking about how the 1-0 pitch would have ended most at bats for players. That bad strike call would have screwed with the heads of players. But Goldie just shook it off. It was pretty cool analysis.

Goldie is such a pro. Prior to his slammy he was 0-4 with 3 K's and a GIDP. Love his ability to shake that off and concentrate on his next at bat.

The home plate umpire wasn’t calling any low borderline pitches strikes. He called that first pitch that wasn’t close a strike. He had been consistent on that call all night.
