St. Louis Cardinals 2022

The New York Yankees did not enjoy their weekend stay in steamy St. Louis.
They suffered a three-game sweep to run their losing streak to five games. Their old friend Jordan Montgomery threw five scoreless innings against them Saturday.
Yankees newcomer Frankie Montas suffered a disastrous pitching debut Sunday. Anthony Rizzo sat out the series with a sore back and New York's lineup wasn’t all that imposing with him and Giancarlo Stanton (Achilles soreness) on the shelf.
Manager Aaron Boone was ejected from Sunday’s game for protesting the erratic ball-and-strike calls by hapless umpire Ed Hickox. Boone gave an excellent presentation at home plate, theatrically demonstrating just how far inside and outside some of Hickox’s strike calls were.

Yankees pitching coach Matt Blake also got ejected, forcing the rest of their field staff to bite its collective tongue while Hickox continued blundering his way through the game. The Yankees are just 6-10 since the All-Star break and they have lost 16 of their last 25 games.

“We need to play better, to be quite frank,” Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson told reporters. “At the end of the day, we still feel very good about our team. It’s a little slide right now. We need to get back on track and continue playing hard.”

It’s funny how the Yankees were only saying the calls were going against them. Several calls went there way, including a ball call to Judge that was clearly a strike and would have struck him out, instead he got a 2 run single.

Hickox clearly gave up on Waino’s curveball before it crossed the plate. There were several strikes in the top of the zone that he called balls. When you see Wainright visibly upset with an umpire you know there is a problem. Did anyone notice Marmol’s little grin when Boone was “discussing” the strike zone with Hickox? My guess is Marmol was thinking “thanks for saving me the trouble.”

DENVER — If the Cardinals soared out of St. Louis on a high from a raucous homestand and a statement sweep of the New York Yankees, it took one day at altitude, a mile high above sea level, for the season to plummet to a low.
The Colorado Rockies humbled the Cardinals with a 16-5 rout that rarely felt that close after the hosts scored a dozen runs before the visitors got their first at Coors Field on Tuesday.
The Cardinals’ seven-game winning streak evaporated quickly as C.J. Cron greeted them with a three-run homer in the first inning and former Cardinal Randal Grichuk followed with a three-run homer in the third inning. Bookended by those blasts, the Rockies had a nine-run inning and chased starter Miles Mikolas from the game after allowing 10 runs on 14 hits.

All before he got his ninth out.
The Rockies had three players, including Grichuk, go 3 for 3 before the end of the third inning. By the end of the sixth inning, the Rockies had two players, Grichuk and Brendan Rodgers, tie their career highs with four hits. And they didn’t stop there. Grichuk set a new career high, outfitting that home run with three singles. In the sixth inning, his looped single to center ignited another rally for the Rockies that pushed them back ahead by a dozen. Colorado finished with 22 hits.
The Cardinals’ biggest threat came in the sixth inning when the Rockies got cocky and brought in a reliever named Bird, Jake Bird. He plunked the first Cardinal he faced, then allowed a two-run single to catcher Andrew Knizner. The Cardinals sent nine batters to the plate and got the bases loaded for leadoff hitter Dylan Carlson. Bird struck out Carlson to land the inning and clip the Cardinals’ rally.

Tell me about it. I'll be there tonight and I hope it's nothing like last night. However, didn't Q have a bad outing with the Pirates at Coors? So it could be interesting.

Class act. I know some didn't like the showiness but I always loved the enthusiasm he played the game with. Add him to the list of former Cards (along with Wong and Carp) that I'll root for no matter where they play.

Also, it's really a shame he ended up with the only team that would force him to cut his majestic mane.

How in the heck did the 3rd base umpire initially call the drive by Arenado a foul ball......it clearly was fair and that is another example of MLB umpires being so bad this year .....Probably the worst call I have seen in many years.......Glad it was reviewable and changed to the right call of a double for Arenado.....

Cardinals up 5-0 going into bottom of the first......

Actually there is quite the selection of calls this year. The home plate umpire on Sunday had more than his fair share. He was probably happy to take that shot off his face mask. Looking for the sympathy votes!

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooootbaar has such a sweet swing.....I wouldn't be surprised if he claims the right field position full time ...................Fast as can be and as we have seen , is an excellent fielder also........That triple he just hit was smooth as butta............................

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooootbaar....................love it...................

It's great to see Paul DeJong have the success at the plate .......he is crushing the ball right now with 3 more hits tonight...It looks to me like he has shortened his swing and his balance at the plate has improved immensely............................He has been a pleasant surprise and his defense continues to be excellent........

Quintana with 6 solid innings w/ 6 K's..................

Any idea what he’s hitting since the recall?

They gave a stat earlier that in his last 10 games he has had 5 doubles , 4 home runs and 13 RBI's.......But I don't know his BA,,,,,,,,,,I'm sure it's above .250

Those stats included tonights hits as well.

11/33 4 HR, 5 Doubles and 2 Singles

He has 2 doubles and 2 singles tonight. Contact is still an issue as Ks a lot but he is raking the ball when he hits it.

Was batting .250 coming into game since called back up, .333 now since 4/5 of right now. Will fluctuate a decent amount if gets hot/cold until at bats add up
