Anyone know much about the Bally Sports Midwest App? My provider doesn’t carry this network and I want to watch the Cardinal games. They say connect to Bally Midwest +, but I don’t see the Cardinals listed.

Depending on area Bally Sports Midwest+ offers select baseball teams. Otherwise it is more about NBA and NHL games. I don't think the Cardinals are offered on Bally Sports Midwest+. Here is something I copied from the + page

What programming can I watch?
DETAILS
When you subscribe to your local Bally Sports regional network on Bally Sports+, you have direct access to your local teams and original programming at home and on the go, including regional NBA and NHL games.
**Note: Currently only select regions offer their live MLB games and related MLB content on Bally Sports+ including Bally Sports Detroit (Detroit Tigers), Bally Sports Florida (Miami Marlins), Bally Sports Kansas City (Kansas City Royals), Bally Sports Wisconsin (Milwaukee Brewers) and Bally Sports Sun (Tampa Bay Rays).

I understand how it goes. It really shouldn't be that hard to view the Cardinals through this junk. I use to have Dish in the STL area and they got rid of what was Fox Sports Midwest now Bally Sports years ago. Certain providers have them, don't, etc and have to jump through all the hoops to get it.

I agree! You would think you could get on the app and sign up.

We are in a weird turmoil time for viewing MLB games. These RSNs are losing money right now, so I think MLB's plan is to let them die and buy them from the banks for pennies on the dollar. I am hoping that eventually you will be able to watch any mlb game, no blackouts, no restrictions on mlbTV in the next couple years.

I bought it this year because I can also watch a lot of Memphis games live and I am usually too busy with young kiddos to make it through a whole Cards game live anyway. I'm just going to have to avoid hearing results and pretend I'm watching live a day later (or watch games at midnight ;) )

We get BSMW on our cable channel, but I can't seem to find the time when pregame ceremonies begin. Anyone know (CT)? Nobody does opening day like the Cards and I still get goosebumps when those clydesdales come out of the wagon gate and the organ music starts. BTW, weather for Thursday in StL is very good; not ideal, but pretty close. Thanks in advance for any info. I should add I'm a lifelong Cards fan and expect big things this season if the pitching staff can hold up. I wouldn't object to trading Carlson and perhaps a draft pick for a solid staring pitcher.

I wish the Cardinals would start wearing those red jerseys for road games and the all-white at home.

An extended version of Cardinals Live pregame begins at 1:30 pm CT on BSMW and will include coverage of the ceremonies (2:25 pm start)

Skepticism abounds about the Cardinals pitching for 2023.
Folks who build and run projection models are not impressed with this group. FanGraphs ranks the Cardinals’ rotation 20th in the majors and their bullpen 12th.
The team’s lack of a “true ace” comes up in most season previews, as does the heavy reliance on the outstanding fielding by starters Miles Mikolas, Jordan Montgomery, Adam Wainwright, Jack Flaherty, Steven Matz and Jake Woodford.
And there is also concern about the depth of the bullpen and the lack of swing-and-miss stuff beyond closer Ryan Helsley.
Writing for FanGraphs, Paul Sporer had these observations about the starters:

Mikolas is a high-floor innings-eater who thrives with excellent control. Since returning to the majors in 2018, his 4% walk rate leads baseball among the 112 starters with at least 400 innings pitched. Montgomery has a 6% walk rate in that same time (good for 29th out of those 112 pitchers) while possessing some real strikeout upside that we don’t see from Mikolas. He could easily repeat or improve upon his 3.48 ERA and 1.09 WHIP from last year. It’s been a while since we have seen Flaherty’s ace upside, but it’s certainly not gone at age 27. The Cardinals would gladly take those projected numbers, especially the volume, as he has just 114 innings since 2021.

Lynn Worthy
JUPITER, Fla. — Dynamic, athletic and with his own distinct swagger, Cardinals prospect and potential shortstop of the future Masyn Winn came into his first big-league spring training camp expecting a unique learning experience. The Cardinals’ decision-makers similarly expected a great opportunity to learn.
Neither Winn nor the Cardinals knew going in what the ultimate lesson would be at the end of camp. That being that Winn is a lot closer than most people thought, himself included, to major-league ready.
It’s now a worse-kept secret than the grass is green, it gets hot in Florida, or that folks in St. Louis enjoy baseball.
When asked what will be the value of Winn’s spring training experience, both the abundance of playing time he received and the impressive performance he turned in with that time, Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol replied, “Knowing he can.”

Winn clearly knows it as well.
“That’s why he’ll be up here and contributing at an extremely high level,” Marmol said. “It’s one of the most impressive players I’ve seen on a field in a long time. I mean, what he does in just every aspect of the game — defensively, offensively, on the bases — Masyn Winn is good.”

Pitching and the health of that pitching always seems to be a question mark. With Wainwright on the shelf someone will have to pick up the slack. Looks like a definite playoff contending team, but beyond that it is hard to predict.

Have had a ton of rain down here in the area lately. Almost looks like the baseball gods are looking out for the Cardinals until crappy weather hits the day afterwards.

High 60s is ideal for opening day. All depends where you sit and if in direct sunlight....been fine in 90 degree weather in somewhat shaded area and sweat like crazy in 75 degree weather with no breeze and direct sun. The tricky games to figure out are in March/April. Always one game where it is 75 degree range and finishes around 35 degrees :ROFLMAO:

I get the concern for the rotation (even though we have like 7 guys that would be #3 starters on any contending team), but I think that will be solved via trade in season. What I don't understand is the lack of excitement for the bullpen. Hicks had a sneaky good year out of the bullpen last year and Gallegos is a very good 8th inning guy (not 9th). I have a high level of confidence and Thompson and Pallante as well. There may be some concern with our extra arms in the bullpen, but we have A LOT of options in that department where we can ride the hot hand.

The best case scenario is Flaherty has a great year and we end up with a trade for a #1 starter. If that's the case, we will go into postseason with a #1 (trade), #2 (where I think flaherty really is), and 2 of the other #3 starter filling in the rotation for postseason.

Worst case scenario is Flaherty has a bad year or gets injured, and 2 or 3 other guys in the rotation get injured or are ineffective as well. Even with that, we would have a #1 (trade), and three #3 starters and a #5 starter (Hudson) vying for a postseason starter role. Again, the depth gives us a good cushion.

Hicks has the highest pitch at 104.9 mph this spring training.......I always feel that the biggest concern for the pitching staff and the bullpen mostly is control.......walks , especially with less than 2 outs usually score it seems like ........

I agree. If Hicks and Helsley could cut down on the walks and locate that heat more consistently, they'd be almost unhittable.

Agree on the bullpen, but this is way too optimistic a take on the rotation. Mikolas and Monty are #3 starters. Waino was a #3 last season, but his velocity issues in ST and WBC may put him in the #5 camp this year. Matz is a 4/5. I'm high on Woodford, Libby and Pallante but so far haven't seen anything to suggest they're anything more than good #4s. Flaherty has #1 upside but based on how he looked in ST I think he's closer to AAA than to he is to that ceiling. Hudson is probably that classic AAAA guy pitches when needed but may never establish himself as a long term member of the 26-man roster.

If you look at the really good rotations out there, like the Dodgers, Mets, Padres, I feel like Mikolas and Monty are the only ones who even have a chance to make the rotation, and probably on the back end.

I like this take. In addition, historically, the Cardinal pitching staff has been injury prone. Hopefully, Flaherty can come back strong, and the issue of a top end starter will be solved.
