This division will keep us around, but at what point are we just a bad baseball team? 60 games is a pretty good sample.

In case you missed it, This IS a bad baseball team. They have time to turn it around but at this very moment (Since the season started) This is a bad baseball team.
When looking at the batting average or OPS, it may not be horrible. Their hitting in clutch situations is horrible. Pitching is atrocious. It doesn't really matter what metric we look at, a team isn't in last place in the league simply because of bad luck.

No doubt Cardinals are not a good baseball team at this point. Starting pitching and bullpen have not been consistent.

Same can go with the starting lineup and guys used in the field. The one thing I will argue is this team has been banged up at multiple positions for awhile now. Cardinals can't even trade away certain guys because they are hurt at the current time. Don't have to look any further than the OF spots. 60 games played total

Nootbaar 42 games played

Carlson 32 games played

TON 29 games played

Walker sent down to minors and called back up. Burleson has played 46 games

Even when guys aren't hurt some of the guys on this roster should not be in the majors. Cardinals ran the 6 man rotation for a short time and wasting a roster spot. Tres Barrera was up for awhile and was wasting a roster spot. Taylor Motter was up for awhile and wasting a roster spot. Steven Matz was left in the rotation way too long.

Cardinals are 7.5 out of Division lead and 7 games out of last Wild Card spot. Any and everything has gone wrong for the most part. Around 1/3 of our games have been one run games and think we are something like 6-13 in them. I think the Cardinals have a shot to turn it around....if they wait until the trade deadline I am not as confident.

The Cardinals have some very good players NOT having very good seasons............The lone bright spot so far has been
the emergence of " Stormin " Nolan Gorman..................His season so far is All Star level............JMHO

The outfield has been a mess...............................

TON.............can't stay healthy
Carlson........can't stay healthy
Nootbaar.............in my opinion , the best option we have for the outfield ................now injured
Walker................going through rookie learning curve , but has shown flashes.....Cardinals best long term option
Burleson............good hitter , fielding kinda suspect......needs to be more consistent.................
Yepez...........good hitter , poor fielder...............DH is best position .................
Edman..........gold glove infielder now being used in the OF ......pretty much says it all for me........has done a good job in OF.....
Donovan......another gold glove infielder being used in the OF.........probably been the Cardinals second best player this year based on his being able to play anywhere except pitch or catch.............Having a somewhat down year compared to last year but already has hit career high in HR's with a lot of season left........using a bat same as Goldie , Arenado and Gorman with the hockey puck handle................................

Infield has it's own mess..................................

Goldie............ having a good season , but is swinging at a lot of outside pitches it seems.......poor HP ump probably has a lot to do with that........................
Gorman.................Having All Star production at bat and very good D........could be Cardinals lone All Star....................
PDJ..................started out great this year after return to the majors.......tailing off big time and has returned to swinging at sliders 4-5 inches off the plate or in the dirt.......Fielding is OK , but I'm hoping for a trade and his name in the trade and bring up Winn..
Arenado..................worst season of inconsistency at the plate since becoming a Cardinal ........D will always be GOLD GLOVE worthy
Contreras..................wow...............what a mess as far as jerking his chain...............put him behind the plate and spell him with Knizner when needed...............

Pitching staff...........................to save time and effort .................F +..................................

Manager.............will he make it to season's end ??
coaches...........?????

FO.............................F +

JMHO...................................not gonna debate any of my post as it is too painful to discuss......it really really is.......

Winn is playing his first season of AAA ball. He seems pretty raw still and hope he is ready for 2024. One thing to keep an eye on is he has been playing some 2B in the minors this season as well. Cardinals love to utilize guys at multiple positions and that might get him up quicker.

38 games at SS and 16 games at 2B

Outfield has been a shuffling game due to a ton of injuries. One thing to keep an eye on is Oscar Mercado once we get some guys healthy. Cardinals can keep him up or likely have to send him through waivers. Pretty sure he has run out of options and can't be sent down without it.

You are correct. I just looked at fangraphs website to confirm it.

It seems like they play 1 regular outfielder and 2 platoon players at the other spots and have been doing this for several weeks. Mercado doesn’t seem to be an answer.

Probably because their 3 starting Outfielders are on the on injured list :ROFLMAO:

No one said Mercado is the answer....he is a fill in until we get guys healthy. Likely won't be on the roster in a few weeks unless more guys get hurt and guys that are already hurt don't return. Cardinals could bring Moises Gomez up and he could be doing the same thing right now. Difference is I would rather have Gomez playing everyday in the minors instead of playing very randomly like Mercado does now.

I see Nootbaar and Walker as starting Outfielders next season.....the rest are not a given

I know it is a new day and time. Areanado hits a 2 run homerun. On the very next pitch, Contreras gets buzzed high and tight. Does one of the Texas players get knocked down tomorrow?
