A few weeks ago, there was some comment on here about not using Areanado (I think it was him) in a pinchhitting situation in the 9th inning on a planned day off for him. The Atlanta Braves as of Monday of this week had 4 position players, who had started every game this year. The analysts who were discussing this said this is a part of the culture of the Braves. They also mentioned the ex-Brave Freddie Freeman, who rarely misses a game. How this concept translates to post-season, I do not know. But it is interesting difference in philosophy with the Cardinals, who have scheduled days off for their regular players.

They must be at the point where they can call him up and it not affect his possible ROY candidacy for next season.
It depends how much action he sees once he plays. One stipulation is out for days up but he could still exceed the other with over 130 at bats.

I doubt the Cardinals let him get over that(not bother me either way). Total of 40 games left...they could easily slide him around in lineup, day off, etc and keep him at that number. If Cardinals are worried about it they will just send him back down whether he is hitting .200 or .400.

JMO but think the Cardinals would have held off another week or more but the injury bug hasn't gone away. Win/Winn as he can get some at bats against major league pitching, curious to see his D and keep some of the less hardcore fans excited about the future.

The same philosophy has been used on Arenado and Goldschmidt for majority of their careers whether with Cardinals or before that time. Arenado/Goldy still play a ton of games and have a ton more miles on their belts than the Braves young core. Difference is the Braves core has done it a few seasons at most(Acuna only played 150+ games once).

Problem the Cardinals have had for years is outside of Goldy/Arenado who can perform at a high level for a full season. Injury bug has also taken a number of guys out of the running for this year and some for multiple years.

Fewer than 130 AB’s, fewer than 50 IP, and few than 45 days on active roster to keep rookie eligibility. I believe yesterday was the 45 day mark.

Reason I said only AB's is because I thought the 45 days on active roster was out the window. Today through Oct 1 if they kept him up would be 45 days alone.

I know they counted September days during Covid season but thought that was it unless they changed it full-time. The 45 days apply to before September 1 expansion of rosters.

Yes, sorry, today to the end would be exactly 45 days.

I don't always keep up the rules and changes or even understand them....all good (y)
Not expecting miracles but hope Winn can grow from this time up now and in offseason and be ready for MLB full-time role next season

Now you got me thinking of Woo :ROFLMAO:

I missed the first hit but saw the highlights. I’m surprised Pete Alonzo threw that ball randomly into the stands. Not a great move (he probably didn’t realize the big deal).

I turned on the game to see 1 + 1 + 3 runs in a row. Ugh.

Typical Cardinals game against a herky jerky lefthanded pitcher with average stuff...........Been that way for a long time with the Redbirds.......

He was a stop gap until Bo Bichette came back from injury. Bichette is activated and DeJong designated. DeJong batting 3 for 44 and 18K's(no walks) might not have helped either :ROFLMAO:

Cardinals dumped him....still have more left
Gotcha - I hadn’t realized they activated Bichette already. Makes a little more sense as they wanted to keep pace in their race. Hope he lands somewhere.

I have complained about DeJong at times but I want nothing but the best for him. He moved to Illinois at a young age and remember him at Illinois State. DeJong and TON are guys that have a ton of pop WHEN they make contact.

DeJong will do fine either way. Blue Jays can pay him $2 million buyout this offseason and he will catch on with a team somewhere. Taking a big pay cut he will be fine....not at the $9M he made this year or would have made $12.5M next season until he gets bought out.

Thru the 5th inning tonight....Cards have been outscored 26-4 in last 4 games. I believe we're seeing a team that has totally given up.
yep......I'm turning them off tonight and NL # 3 and I are gonna watch some movies as we get ready for the Women's World Cup game this early Sunday morning.............

later all............................

Or (and you and pru can follow me here) maybe they're playing a team that they don't match up well with right now. And I don't know how you can say they've given up considering in the series prior to this one, they won 2 out of 3 games and last week they took 2 out of 3 against a pretty good Rays team that was in first place in the AL East for a good chunk of this season.

It doesn't make sense to say they have given up when so many of them are young players. Baker, Burleson, Palacios and Winn aren't giving up. Not in the game Walker as well. They are in IL but Noot, Carlson and Gorman didn't quit.

Cardinals are rotating players in and out because they are out of the race. They weren't winning with the regular roster....Cardinals been on audition for 2024 mode for awhile now.

If anyone saw that non-scoop by Baker a little bit ago that let 3 runs in.....we are in rebuild for next season as well if Goldy gets moved.(I don't see that happening)
