It was a pleasure watching Scott Rolen play for the Cardinals. Always enjoyed him before and after the Cardinal days as well. Hard nosed team player that showed up to play rain or shine.
I will enjoy it if he goes in without a team affiliation, Phillies or Cardinals.
The one thing hurting him for the Cardinals is less time. Probably had around 800 less at bats with the Cardinals but
pretty sure he had a higher defensive WAR during his time with the Cardinals. Rolen played around 1/3 of a season in 2005 and had that season ending shoulder surgery or would have added more offensive stats in his prime seasons with the Cardinals.
Now the possible good and JMO....I think the Hall of Fame's senior staff let Scott Rolen decide. When it comes down to a close call they will not influence him at all but
they tend to lean towards somewhere where he had a bigger impact. Considering he had no playoff runs with the Phillies I don't see it being that close. Made it to 2 World Series with the Cardinals and won the 2006 World Series while hitting .421 in it.
It will all be up to Rolen and congrats on a great career
