St Louis Cardinals 2026

I forgot to mention it was Harry Caray who made the radio call that day when Stan had his special day. That was good, because Harry was young and in his prime. But on another topic, I see that Tatis, the usual stud for the Padres, has yet to hit a homer this year. Go figure. Cards are at SD tonight.

I see Pru's favorite player had a "gud" 1st inning!

Just as a reminder, each game of the series in San Diego will air on a different channel.

Tonight's game is on ESPN.

Friday's game is on Apple TV.

Saturday's game is on FOX.

Sunday's game will be on Cardinals.TV

Thank you. I would have figured it out, but it saves me some time. I do not have Apple TV, but I have other options. If Brad Thompson is working the Sunday game, it gives me a break. I like Sweeney much better. Just my personal bias.

One of my cherished memories came the first week of May in 1954, when I listened on my radio as Stan The Man clobbered 5 homers in a Busch Stadium doubleheader against the (New York) Giants. I think Musial had 9 rbi that day. I did a little research; only one other player has ever done that. It was sometime in the '70s, I think. I can't remember his name or the team he played for.
Nate Colbert. SanDiego Padres. I remembered the team, but Colbert's name escaped my memory momentarily. This record is hard to replicate obviously . However, since there are far fewer Sunday doubleheaders than there were in the 50's, 60's and 70's, the record may never be touched again.

Interesting stat in the Cubs-Reds game yesterday. DeLaCruz of the Reds went 0-4 with 3 rbi's. Apparently drove in 2 with one sacrifice fly! Record is 4 in one game. 😵‍💫

Team is exciting.

Need to upgrade Victor Scott in the outfield. Thank goodness nobody is talking about moving JJ to the outfield. They ruined Kolten Wang and Tommy Edman this way.

Bring Baez up. He is hitting .250 with 7 HR at Memphis. Scott is below the Mendoza line.

Maybe Nootbar will recover although I would trade him if he plays well.

We miss Brendon Donavan but it was the right thing to do.

A lot of Cardinals fans like Sweeney better lol.

I haven't watched an Apple TV game though I hope they still have the option to listen to the radio call on there like they did last season (though if Claiborne is on there tomorrow night I may just stick to the Apple TV broadcasters). It usually synced up pretty well to the action.

Great pitching tonight! Would have been nice to score an extra run or two to make it more relaxing!

Walker with a couple ropes!

You are right. Doubleheaders are a thing of the past. Follow the $$$. They only happen in case of a postponed game which gets rescheduled. And even that is extremely rare. I think Nate and Stan can lock up the trophy case.

Am I correct in thinking Church and Weatherholt are both rookie status? I like what I see in both.

I agree with all of this. You break it down well. O'Brien is still a mystery man to me, but so far so good. Gorman is looking good at 3rd base, and I keep hoping he'll unlock that enormous power at the plate.

This is another piece of historical information I ran ascross. Nate Colbert was supposedly in old Sportsmen Park the day that Stan Musial hit his 5 home runs.

Nootbaar is the obvious upgrade - it was always going to be whoever wasn't playing well between Church or Scott to be jettisoned by Nootbaar. It should maybe be Saggese instead but he's the only plausible backup SS they have (Fermin can maybe stand there, JJ could stand there if they shuffled some other guys around).

They have to give Nootbaar the run this year - no reason not too and he has the highest ceiling of those 3 for sure. If they can get some value for him then sure trade him at the deadline, but he seems more like an off season trade guy.

There's 0% change JJ moves to the OF. Edman was a plus defender in the OF, and even still, there was never a season with the Cardinals where he played more OF innings than IF innings. So they didn't really "move" him to the OF. Kolton Wong only played the OF for the Cardinals for 106 innings in 2016 (followed by 4 more seasons of exclusively playing 2B). Those 106 innings were purely a Matheny fever dream, nothing like that would happen again.

Wow. Cool, really cool. Wonder if he was a kid there with parents.....

Yes, however, I think by '54 it was named Busch Stadium.

Nootbaar is still needing to prove he is an everyday player......he played more games last year than any year in his MLB career and he was very underwhelming at best.....he has talent , no doubt , but I would rate Church above him now.....Nootbaar needs to show he's physically healthy enough to play at least 5 days a week and actually put up good enough production to even warrant that much playing time....my memories of him last year was undoing his leg protection at home plate thinking he walked but actually struck out......the ABS system might benefit him more than anyone else in the Cardinals organization.....it really really might,,,

when Nootbaar is activated send down VS II and keep playing Church in CF and slide Nootbaar into LF gradually at first....JMHO.....

Gotta love the Little League grand slam.. JJ should have 2 rbi on that hit. They should change that. If that were Tatis or Machado, it would have been 2 rbi.

#547
J J Wetherholt with a bases loaded single that Tatis misplayed in right field and J J never stopped running till he crossed HP.......Put the Cardinals up 4-0 , now 5-0 as Gorman just singled in a run.....Winn with a SF now 6-0........going to bottom of the 5th.....

McGreevy on the mound for the Cards.............................he now has 7 K's only giving up 1 hit...........
