State Farm Center Renovation

AH needed new HVAC badly for that to be a reality since there was no A/C if I recall correctly. Then you've also got the added cost of maintaining 2 buildings that are doing the job of 1. Reno was the way to go IMO, and I can't wait for an opportunity to be there and experience it. I don't think I've been in the Hall since 1996 or so.

So when WOULD a school ever build new? I mean, most schools will already have some sort of arena in place before they decide to upgrade in some way.

I'm sure it has happened, but if you build new why would you keep the old building? It's just throwing money away, especially since AH needed upgrades to remain a viable venue for just about anything.

I'm guessing most schools wouldn't when replacing a BB-only facility with a new BB-only facility. Assembly Hall is a multipurpose venue and always has been, so there was a lot stronger reason to consider keeping it when building a new arena just for basketball.

And work is underway for the homestretch. The locker rooms are gone along with a couple other rooms in that area. The temp walls are being taken down throughout the building along with the temp concessions stands on the upper level. The most strange looking view was looking up at the ring and seeing it totally bare. All the lights and speakers have been removed. Just a few lights left on other area's up on the grid.
The new Legacy club is coming along, some drywall and lighting done. The Krush club is framed. Prep work is going on in some area's and they are currently starting the new additional restrooms on the upper level.

Are they planning on doing this last phase right up to the start of the season again? It would be nice if it was done sometime during the summer so we could show recruits a finished product when official visits start in August/September.

I wouldn't think it would take 7.5 months. I hope not at least.

Barring any problems they should be done by October. I believe at this point they are working 40 hour weeks. A lot smaller work crew than last year, but that schedule could change per work to be done. Everything is right on schedule and should be completed in time.

Mizzou kept their old building after building the new one. It's used for Volleyball, Wrestling, intramurals, etc. Not sure how the upkeep and facility expense comes into play. I imagine it will get the wrecking ball before having to put major capital $$ into it.

Not since a week ago, I'm going back a week from today. After next week we will decide if I'll be going every two weeks or longer in between. Last week my people etc. were over in Indy, so hopefully they will have those shots up soon.

Today's visit
In the arena work continues up on the ring, prepping it for all of the new lights, wire-ring, brackets etc. This will take awhile. The locker rooms have been completely demolished and they are now getting ready for new plumbing infrastructure, cutting the concrete floor etc.
The two new clubs are coming along, one has the drywall complete and was being painted today. The other one is getting drywall installed currently.
New flooring for the East entrance should begin next week, other area's TBD.
On the upper concourse all of the old glass has been removed and all of the new glass has been installed, adding the trim and sealants now.
The old wall on the upper concourse has now been completely removed, the only thing left are two old door frames from the NW and North entrances.
The two new restrooms are coming along, on one the walls are starting to be built. both are roughed in. Two area's have been built of cinder blocks (rooms), not sure what they will be used for at this time.
Everything is moving along fine with no worries about hitting their deadline. I'll head back in a couple more weeks.
As for photo's, they are in the system and out of my hands, they hope to have some up soon.

How much physically larger is the locker room going to be?

I really don't know, the old set up had matching M&W locker rooms with a trainers room in the middle. They are moving and expanding the trainers room to across the hall, so I assume the two new locker rooms will take over that space, Also in both locker rooms, there was (lack of a better term) a small foyer before you entered the actual locker rooms. That area wasn't really used. With it gone and the training room gone, the locker rooms could be expanded by 5-8' in width and maybe 10' in length. I haven't seen any real drawings yet so I could be totally wrong.

your killing me with no photos ilphotog!! I'm jonsing :)

I wish I could post them, they download them minutes after I shoot them, it's 100% on DIA and the SFC to choose what photo's to post and when they post them. I wish I could get them to post the photo's quicker, but it's out of my hands.

Today's visit - A new State Farm Center sign has been installed on top of the covered walkway of the East entrance, just like the one on the West side but smaller.
Nothing new to report on the inside of the arena. In the locker room area, they have cut sections of the old floor out to install new plumbing fixtures and lines.
The upper concourse has a lot going on, the building of two new rest rooms and permanent concessions stands is moving along.
The Legacy Club has the drywall complete, the Krush Club is a little further behind. Both clubs will have their own bathrooms and concession area's.
The floor for the East entrance area is being put down, there will be a large block I in the middle.
With the outer wall and windows complete (just finishing touches left), most of the remaining work is now inside.
