I give you ... the Extremely Lucky Timeline that Illini fans have gone through decades of torment to realize in 2024:

1. TSJ's request for the suspension to be overturned is granted on Friday 1/19/2024. ✅
2. The Illini get on another hot streak, starting with RU at home and a win at NU in front of a majority Illini crowd.
3. The Illini sit atop the Big Ten and in the top 5 of the AP poll the day of Shannon's preliminary hearing (Friday 2/23). No new evidence to move the needle is presented by the DA, and the judge (perhaps considering the DA's very sketchy past) rules that there should have not been probably cause to even charge TSJ in the first place. The charges are dropped, and Shannon is free to live his life as a 110% innocent man!
4. The next day, Illinois absolutely demolishes Iowa by 30+ in the House of 'Paign.
5. On Tuesday 3/5, the Illini get revenge on Purdue at home and clinch what should be our third Big Ten championship in four years.
6. We finish the season by sweeping rival Iowa in Iowa City ... I'll be there.
7. Honestly don't care about the BTT, but I guess we can win it if it doesn't tire us out too much? ;)
8. Playing like no team has played since our 2005 squad, this team is together, hungry and playing with a chip on their shoulder. They simply are not going to be stopped.
9. On Monday 4/8/2024, for the first time in its storied history, the Illinois Fighting Illini are crowned National Champions.

IANAL but allowing the accused to be heard is always best practice. Kangaroo courts will be exposed at some point in the process. My previous post on this issue was that I felt the judge would find that the committee did not offer TSJ to be afforded due process. Also, as attorney Gilfillan appropriately pointed out, every case is not the same. I hope the team is ready to rock as much as we are!!! I-L-L

Face it. Every fan for any team other than ours is going to have a problem with this. Bias affects all our perceptions. I thought Goodman was fine - saying that he or Dauster can't know the facts was about the best you can hope for from the national media.
As fans we know how tenuous this allegation is - no interaction between the accused and victim, only 2 minutes that not on cameral, occurred in a crowded place. DA is apparently an activist, and probably most other DAs would not have brought these charges without more. This isn't a case where the girl shows up bloody at the hospital and there is DNA evidence connecting the accused with the victim. Generally, charges are backed by sufficient evidence to conclude the wrongdoing was likely to have occurred, not just a bald assertion of something occurring in front of a bunch of people that didn't observe anything.
I think this is a fairly unique case. The non-Illini fan public just hears "rape charges" and assumes the DA and police did their job and have the goods to back up the charges.

Have I been sleeping for 3 months, and did this really happen?

I am not a legal expert but why is he being accused of rape for the accusation being "placed his finger under her underwear and inserted it into her v****a" I am not condoning this by any means but either i am missing something more or this is now considered rape. Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you!

I guess is that it took them 21 minutes to say, "we shouldn't be talking about this". I guess I don't have a lot of patience. It gets me in trouble at home too.

Understood. I may be in the minority, and I am fine with that. I didn't finish the video and didn't subscribe, because it took them too long to make their point.

I'm just suggesting it's a decent take from a national media source. I expect a largely negative take, therefore I kind of liked their take being:

"It's a tough, nuanced situation and we probably shouldn't say much about it right now."

I'd say that's reputable in today's media landscape.
Think it illustrates they won't take any time to do the slightest research. Guy on right was reasoned. Guy on left gave opinions on what he knew little about ... basically stated that in general false allegations are so rare tsj has to be guilty and he was really uncomfortable that tsj will play.

A victory for the doctrine of innocense before being pronounced guilty.

And another reason the U very much needs to review its policy regarding persons accused of something.

Find someone guilty first. That’s how it should work. Then comes punishment.
Amen

Million dollar question. Does the University now go back and try to redo this by checking all the needed boxes?

As to the fan reaction on the road, I think a lot will depend on what further information comes out. To that, it will be interesting to see if the legal team has a PR angle to this whole thing.
Who gives a damn about opposing fans reaction. Have you been to games?

I said it once before, but I think it is important to understand that it is ok to support Shannon's return while not treating him like a returning hero. I know we are excited right now about having him back on the team, but he still has serious charges pending against him. The evidence we know of right now is extremely thin, and I am hopeful that he will eventually be fully exonerated, but at the same time I wouldn't be rushing out to buy a Shannon jersey. It is possible to support him and root for him on the court while also showing a bit of restraint in how we treat him as fans.
Innocent until proven guilty

Josh seems to be really really really worried about himself. So in that sense, he's smart.

True but the poster said this was how he hoped it would turn out. Zero tolerance policy. Suspended. Check. Due process through the panel who agreed with his judgment. Check. TRO vigorously and competently opposed by the university and Josh. Check. He and the university are above reproach. He might not have engineered it. He might not have foreseen it but yes he is smiling. Everyone wins here
Should have never been suspended.

Glad to have TSJ back. Hopefully in the end of this mess he will be exonerated. For those expecting TSJ to go off against Rutgers, I’m not for sure he even plays. He hasn’t practiced with the team for 3 weeks. Does he have to go through conditioning and a few practices before you even play him? When he does play I believe you work him into the lineup.

He said she said. Should have never been suspended. Innocent or guilty we all should wait until a court case takes place. Totally unfair to TSJ, or anyone for that matter (even if he plays for Michigan). Totally ridiculous to suspend anyone because someone accused him/her of something. Weak society we live in these days. Dude could be completely innocent but because someone accused him of something he should be suspended? Ridiculous.

I could tell a restaurant manager that a waiter told me to kiss his behind, should he be fired? Stupid.

Huh? Are you serious? He was barely out 2 weeks.

He wasn't suspended simply because someone accused him of something. He was suspended because he was charged and arrested and because of an ongoing criminal investigation.
