The team put out that video featuring a day in TJ's life only two weeks ago or so. The press release mentioned the University became aware of it being looked into all the way back in September.

How do you let something like that happen and promote someone so heavily with something like this out there as a possibility?

I hate commenting on these types of things, but I can't help but ask if any basketball or football players were with him that night that could also come forth with what they encountered?

Also, is JW actually an attorney or did I interpret that wrong?

This is the major head scratcher for me. Conversely, you can’t just not put promotional stuff out there for your top player.

I can only look at the Tate and Nunn cases as the handbook is unclear. Both were charged and arrested with domestic assault like a week apart. Tate was suspended in March and reinstated in May when the charges were dropped. Nunn was suspended in March as well and dismissed from the team 2 months later immediately after he plead guilty to battery.

So looks like Shannon will be suspended until the charges are resolved.

Worst case: He did it and a young woman's life has been forever altered in a heinous way and I' disgusted TSJ was ever associated with our program
Best case: He didn't do anything wrong but he still has to live with the stain of this accusation, which comes while he's having an AA caliber season and trying to impress NBA scouts.
Either way he may have just lost millions of dollars and his reputation, and Illinois just lost out on a potentially magical season.
There are zero winners no matter what happened.

Rape is horrible. If he is guilty that is horrendous. But maybe he is not guilty and therefore not going to act guilty. I would hold my head high if falsely charged. Given prior cases that have been false I’ll wait to judge.

There was a small statement from Whitman
"The University and DIA (Division of Intercollegiate Athletics) have shown time and again that we have zero tolerance for sexual misconduct," Illinois athletic director Josh Whitman said in a statement. "At the same time, DIA policy affords student-athletes appropriate levels of due process based on the nature and severity of the allegations. We will rely on that policy and our prior experiences to manage this situation appropriately for the University and the involved parties."

Loosing a 1st team AA is a crushing blow. IF he's not suiting up for the rest of the season loosing in the first round of the NCAA tourney is the best case scenario.
