I don't see how this could have occurred in September and just now be coming to having charges filed and handled. If the University was aware of the accusation as mentioned then they surely looked into it on some level and let him continue to play. If they felt he did it i don't believe he would have been on the team. I don't know TSJ but I just find this hard to believe from what I've seen from him.

No matter the outcome of this case, Terrence will now live with a cloud over his head for the rest of his life. If he did assault this girl, then he fully deserves whatever consequences come his way. However, by all accounts he is an upstanding young man. False sexual assault charges are also not foreign to athletes (Duke lacrosse scandal, Brian Banks, Matt Ariza). I hope that this is resolved quickly, and I feel horrible for the team and staff who now have to grapple with this event.

I cannot envision a scenario in which the University, Athletic Dept, or Whitman is going to claim Shannon is "innocent." Quite frankly, unless someone was present with Shannon at all times during the trip, there is no reasonable basis for such belief. I am somewhat surprised by the amount of time that it took to institute formal charges. The basis of these prosecutions often hinges not on whether the act occurred but whether there was consent. Unfortunately, this leads to a messy "he said, she said" type of situation. Devastating news for sure.

For those asking how it took three (nearly four) months to come out, this is a process for the victim. It can take a lot to come to terms with what happened, speak out about it, and seek help. It's why we have the concept statute of limitations in our legal system.

From everything I've ever seen of TSJ, he seems like a wonderful young man. I truly hope that there's no merit to this claim.

Someone tell me how Josh and Brad didn't screw up royally here? How could any internal investigation they should have done come up with nothing when there apparently is enough to charge him with rape? I just cannot imagine what they could possibly say that could excuse their inaction up until now. Did they really put themselves in a position where there is no choice but to fire them??? I am absolutely dumbfounded.

Idk what to say. Just awful. I gave up on Illini football after this year (don’t even start with me) and if this is true I may be done with sports entirely from a fan perspective. Can’t take it anymore

The accuser didn't just come out with it though. It took the police 4 months to decide to charge. That is odd. What new evidence could there be?

And I'm sorry, there have been too many similar cases for me to say who the "victim" is at this point. Its an unfortunate realty that some people have hurt the credibility of actual victims to the point that its hard to believe these things without doubt.

I was speaking generally because as a high school counselor, I've worked with both those who are accusing others of this kind of thing and those who have been accused. It's hard on both parties and always devastating.

It can also take the police a long time to gather evidence and move forward. If they were waiting for court orders for cell phones or lab reports confirming what DNA belonged to whom, it could also take a while.
