Do you think SVP or Russilo know who's helmet that is? Semi-serious question.

Unless there's some sort of appropriation issue with selling #77 jerseys, that's a huge miss by Nike to sell the #6 instead of the #77.

People would actually buy a Grange jersey. But a grey Ferguson jersey...? lol
Must have been a limited run since I read somewhere that the Ferguson jerseys sold out online already.

How in the hell are we included with that group?

It's for this reason that all the traditionalists freaking out about the gray need to take a deep breath. This is why these marketing ploys are good for Illinois and the new brand. It gets our helmet on display with Wisconsin, Alabama, etc. on national TV. We literally only got our helmet on there because it's cool-looking and different.

My biggest pet peeve is when the marketing department does something cool and people respond with "let's win some games".... the marketing department is doing their job they can't go win games or coach. Just because we aren't winning doesn't mean we can't appreciate a cool helmet/uniform. The marketing department can't just sit around until we win they still have jobs to do and in my opinion are doing a pretty good at it.

Exactly, but that's mainly coming from the idiot comment section on Illini Facebook. Seriously, read those comments for five minutes and try not to strangle somebody.

Unfortunately I have read them and I gave up even looking at them... It's just sad.

The helmets are sort of cool but we could've done soo much better with the uni's

Pretty clever little article u posted. The comment after the article was a bit of a gut punch.

Because some people care more about football than the uniforms? Yeah, that's terrible.

YES! That place is a step above the typical YouTube comment section.

So, you're assuming that it would be impossible to have a cool looking helmet that was orange or blue? Silver and grey are that much better?

That's not the point. The point is they get mad at the marketing department over Ws/Ls. The marketing department has a job to do regardless

I don't think anyone is getting mad at the marketing department. Maybe upset/disappointed with NIKE's weak effort at coming up with something "cool" and passing it off like it truely has anything to do with Red Grange & then our athletic dept (or whoever at the U of I) who thought is was something to get excited about.

If anything, I think most people feel sorry for the marketing department for having to try to come up with some sort of positive publicity when they have these uniforms to work with and when our team has been performing so poorly this season.

As far as the alternative uniforms go, it feels like we are way behind the trend and copying what has been played out for years rather than keeping up with the current trends. One of the refreshing trends this year is that a handful of teams are actually using real throwback uniforms (Oregon and Virginia are two who have done that very well this year). I wish we would've gone that route, it would've gone over much better with the fans and kept our program a little more up with the times.

Not at all. All of our helmets look cool. But because it's a special gray version, it's on Scott Van Pelt's desk.
