Are you sure its the shield and not the state outline being used as a pride sticker? Hes putting the State outline sticker on in the photo, and thats what they used the last year or two

I was thinking the same thing. Reminds me when we used to mockingly chant "Rose Bowl" back in the day when the Illini would win one conference game.

Well, they haven't lost a conference game yet this year, so it can happen!

He was quoted in the article as saying the Shield would be. I'm sure there are probably other things the state outline is used for, but the Shield is given to three players.

Wait, I didn't see that, I just saw the small shield.

PLEASE tell me we are not doing multiple kinds of pride stickers. That is the most high schoolish thing ever.

Edit to add: Just saw Dan's post. That looks terrible. We're going to ruin our new helmets with this

Shields for players of the game on one side, states for impact plays..

I'll hand you a bucket to barf into but I don't mind what they're doing at all.

I mean, let's be honest here. This is just how Tim Beckman operates. Slogans, baubles, gimmicks, etc.

I have been staunchly pro-Beckman from day 1 and I am extremely optimistic about this season, but if it all goes the other way, the "Worlds Greatest Gym Teacher" epitaph is right there for the writing.

Do the players have the option of not getting the stickers? The clean look is best. I never liked the look of any helmets with all those stickers on them.

Personally not a fan of the look, but the players love it. Every sticker on there is a mark of their best performances, and those guys really do drive hard to get more.

I agree in general, but really like Georgia's stickers.
