Good one.... But you are freaking out that we are "ruining" the helmet with something the players like.

Do you have any evidence the players prefer a two-sticker system vs. a one-sticker system? Because that was what I was in favor of.

You know what they say about stickers, "If you are using 2 stickers, you really don't have 1."

I have serious issues with 40-something white guys who have nothing to do with the program huffily and authoritatively telling other 40-something white guys who have nothing to do with the program that they know "what the recruits and players want". But even leaving that to one side, giving out helmet stickers is clearly and unambiguously the province of the coaches, not the players. We have two kinds of stickers because Tim Beckman wants two kinds of stickers, period.

We need a point gaurd commitment soon. We are ripping apart at the seams.

Why is everyone white?

Every single person on an Illinois message board is a 43 year old white father of two from the Peoria suburbs. This is known.

I'm not anywhere close to 40

I don't understand the sense of wearing the same thing twice. I thought the whole point was to mix up the looks and appeal to recruits. Makes me think we aren't getting anything blue.

Only Oregon really does that and gets away with it. I think what we need is that solid uniform that holds true. Combine one good uni combination with winning and every recruit wants to wear it. I think for the most part you see essentially the same uniforms every year at schools that win IE: tOSU, Penn St., Neb, Alabama, Michigan etc.. The same old uni's year after year basically. Find a good solid combination (which I think we have now) and win.

I mean, let's be honest here. This is just how Tim Beckman operates. Slogans, baubles, gimmicks, etc.

Let's be honest here. Beckman isn't the first or last to operate this way including the bald guy across the street.

As for the stickers, I've never been a fan if them when I first saw them being used back in the 70's. I think it clutters up increasing clutter helmets and uniforms, but my son plays HS ball and it is meaningful to him when he gets one so maybe it is a big deal to college players as well.

I agree with your premise, but OSU and UNL have tinkered with their unis and Michigan has as we'll to a lesser extent.

Hey! I take offense at that! I'm a 47 year old white father of four from the Peoria suburbs, which makes me way cooler.

Now that everyone knows my cred, I'll weigh in on the sticker controversy. I thought the two stickers on our high school football team helmets back in the early 80s were cool, a skull & crossbones for big defensive plays and a football for big offensive plays. I'd love to see a chief sticker and shield sticker, but given how hateful and racist the chief stickers are compared to honorable and cool FSU feathered spear stickers, I'd settle for block I and shield stickers. Instead, we've got state and shield stickers, which is fine. Nobody complains about the marijuana leaf, er, I mean buckeye leaf stickers on tOSU helmets. If it motivates the players, do it. I like the look of the clean helmets, but as the season progresses, I like seeing who is getting credit for success just as much.

Kudos to Coach Beckman for wearing the proper (rebrand) pullover and visor today. Maybe he reads this board
