There is no way Barb Wilson or the search committee would land on Tom Michael. Remember that.

If he gets the job, that's a decision that was made at bayonet point.

I'm sure you have been asked, and maybe you have already answered it. If so, sorry. Who do you believe will be the next A.D.?

I'd guess Whitman. That's just a guess though. I have no idea what the Tiley situation is. I'd tend to believe the Shannon Ryan update though, she's been rock-solid.

Like when Khan was going to fund a new basketball stadium and improve all facilities to be the best (or one of the best) stadium and facilities in the college nation (what was it...$300M-$500M?) ? But we would not give him an honorary degree or something nor did UI want his money.

That's almost as bad as all the Hugh Hefner nonsense.

Well it seems like this is gonna remove a lot of stress from my life. I just won't care much anymore if it goes the way it looks like it is going and a Michael hire. He will be in such a hole with the Chicago media and a good portion of the fan base from day 1

I understand if George does not want the job, but I will be interested to see what happened with Tiley if he in fact is no longer in the running. I mean he could have denied interest months ago.

If they happen to be choosing Michael. The best time to announce him would be during the super bowl. Maybe nobody will notice.

Their insistence? Wisconsin-loving Barb Wilson and Welshman Tim Killeen, not to mention a BoT on which only 4 of the 11 members attended UIUC, insisted the hire be an "Illini Guy"?

The Illini Guy thing was a mandate applied to the process from the outside. The money wants someone they have total control over.

Yes++++ Whew..only at Illinois.

Whomever the new AD will be, we all need to give them a chance like Dee has stated. All our reported options have not hired a big time head basketball or football coach yet, George and Tiley included. People talk about these guys like they are the saviors of this program but neither has made a hire. The successes and failures of the new AD will be based on the results of our programs, not on an expectation of this fan base on making a splashy hire. Hopefully whoever takes over gets this messy athletic program on track.

If it is the one person that is way down at the bottom of my list. I am sorry to say he won't get a chance with me. Hopefully he does well for Illinois. But I don't think I will really care at that point. We already have two terrible decisions. That would be three strikes and you are out.

A lower tier AD will be behind the curve as far as fan support, but as always winning cures all. He/she will sign a 5+ year contract so they have a short window. I only have Michael in my no hire list, everyone else I would give more of a chance. Michael would have to hire a new football and probably basketball coach so he has a good chance to change things.

Did someone on here say that Frazier had taken his name out of the running by saying so at an NIU school function? Or was that another unsubstantiated rumor?

I've seen some references to him saying something at signing day, but I have not heard or read anything on him being officially out. Who knows, maybe he said something on signing day but it was misquoted.

At this point, if George and Tiley are out, I'm really hoping it is him.
