Whomever it is is going to need to talk a pretty good game in order to placate the viper pit they're walking into.

I don't think Tom Michael's "comprehensive excellence" speech is going to cut it. In case you didn't watch that introductory conference video, I'll paraphrase: "My plan for EIU is comprehensive excellence. That means being excellent at everything." Basically, if you ever wondered what Beckman might have sounded like if he had gone into administration instead of coaching, click on the link.

Believe me, I have seen it long ago.

He's better elsewhere, but never exactly great.

I'd guess Whitman. That's just a guess though. I have no idea what the Tiley situation is. I'd tend to believe the Shannon Ryan update though, she's been rock-solid.

How can you say she has been rock-solid? I can only hope that is sarcasm and my meter isn't working properly. She was absolutely not even close with her Tuesday afternoon story about who interviewed. She had Mehrtens and Tiley as interviewing and now we know neither was there and never interviewed by any method. She had the committee meeting again on Wednesday and then promptly took that down and said they finished up on Tuesday. She missed at least 2 and maybe 3 other people who actually did interview. If that's rock-solid, then I'd hate to see shaky. She may have been rock solid on other stories and issues but she hasn't been close on this one.

I've seen some references to him saying something at signing day, but I have not heard or read anything on him being officially out. Who knows, maybe he said something on signing day but it was misquoted.

At this point, if George and Tiley are out, I'm really hoping it is him.

I guess I don't understand all the love for Frazier. I have met him, but I do not know him well, he may be a really nice guy and a good AD. But he has not hired any major coaches at NIU. Their current fball and bball coaches are the work of former AD, Jeff Compher, who left NIU for Eastern Carolina after replacing Jim Philips. I personally think their football program is on the decline after the Kill recruits have left.

Compher and Philips I knew. Philips would obviously make a good AD, but he's not interested. I think Compher left the area for better climate and past connections to Carolina. Just not sure why so many think Frazier is our answer if we whiff on George and Tiley?

I don't think there is love for him. He is just better than Michael. Some people like him better than Whitman also. He is still a fail in my eyes. Only George or Tiley or some unkown person would be a good hire after seeing the list of possibilities.

Love may have been too strong of a word choice. I hear you.

Personally would prefer Whitman to Michael if those are our two options.

Frazier is light years ahead of some of the other candidates, other than Tiley and George.

I kind of half expected a drop on Twitter during the SB that Tom Michael was the guy. Seemed like it would go completely unnoticed.

News tomorrow? (Just guessing - no knowledge on my part).

I'm wondering if we have our guy and are negotiating the contract now. This would explain why some have taken their name out of the running.

I still wonder if the request for more money tweet was accurate. I can't see Michael or Whitman would require more money then already allotted for the position.

The reason this has taken this long is we are waiting for George to accept or turn down our offer. Which I believe he turned it down Friday. That still leaves Tiley in play because he would accept in a heartbeat if offered. The good news is Whitman is right there as well.

After another awful week of Illinois athletics (basketball), I am so ready for this hire. I'm at a point where any of these names will do. I'm still holding out hope for Tiley, but Michael or Whitman seem like they would at least get the ball rolling. As things stand, it can't get much worse for an athletic department. Both revenue sports with very insecure coaches, no permanent AD, and no permanent Chancellor. My beloved University has never been so dysfunctional.

:deadhorse: I know.

Should hear something by Thursday. Also it's not going to be Michael so if you fear that put that aside. He's not in the running. Courtesy interview. Tiley still in play despite press otherwise. He has an interesting definition of formal. Still a longshot. The George/Khan stuff is all true. He still doesn't want to come here. It'd be best for everyone to move on but they wont. Whitman is the safe money right now. Frazier after him.

That's like saying "The sky is blue. The sky is green." Those two statements directly contradict one another.

George's answer has been "no" privately exactly as long and exactly as clearly as it has been publicly. This is all a ruse.

They don't contradict each other. Khan apparently can't take no for an answer although he's going to have to soon.

Why do you gate Khan?

I would guess at least 95% of the fan base think George is absolutely the best hire. It seems Khan is doing everything he can to make that happen but you do nothing but bash him. From reading what Rick George has done if he is the AD, friend or not Khan will not control him. Sounds personal to me. Did Khan or Guenther Fire you somewhere in the past?
You keep complaining about this ECI power play but you have gone out your way to control this thread. I will start every post now complaining abut the S&C power play on this thread.

I'm praying for Tiley simply for his ability to turn around athletic institutions and make them relevant.

Other than that, I am hoping that whoever the candidate is (including Tiley), simply gets lucky and ends up hiring an awesome up and coming football coach. It has been shown that past success doesn't correlate with a future successful hiring. Mike Thomas is our example of this.

We are due for some good luck and getting a coach who has potential and eventually outperforms expectations. Even if it means that coach leaves us for a better school...it's what we need.

We certainly are due! As so many have stated, George and Tiley would be homeruns. They would not only excite fans but they'd garner national attention and symbolize that Illinois is making a play. After that, Josh Whitman as so many have stated may not have the wow factor, but the Illini nation would support him and give him every chance to succeed. Based on his resume, he could be the next great AD. If we do not go past this list, I think we would have done about as well as we could have.
