Korn Ferry search coordinators, Mr. Jeff Daniels and Mr. Jim Carey, had no comment on the University of Illinois' athletic director search in a statement issued today.

They issued a statement to say they have nothing to say? That says a lot.

It isn't similar to Milliken or Wheaton either to which the comparison was made, not Illinois.

Student enrollment has virtually nothing to do with athletic programs. If anything, larger enrollment would be a benefit for a school without scholarships, in the same way that larger high schools tend to have more good athletes by the simple law of averages.

I knew Whitman in college (very very peripherally, not going to pretend we were buds or he would even remember me) and he seemed like a great guy. He might be a great AD. But there's no way on earth he's the top candidate out there right now with his lack of experience.

January 25th: "No announcement coming soon." -- Barb Wilson

February 8th: "Yes, announcement coming soon." -- Barb Wilson

February 11th: "No announcement coming soon. And don't believe the crazy media. They're all over the place with this thing! " -- Barb Wilson

Sounds like we decided to plunge down another rabbit hole. Hooray -- throw another 50 pages on the thread.

Chancellor Barbara Wilson just said they hope to announce a new AD by the end of the month...she said don't listen to media. Inaccuracies !

That would lead one to guess they are trying hard with Tiley and need time for the back and forth .

You wouldn't think they would need 2 more weeks if they were past considering him and were on to plans c and or d .

I would not be surprised if they eventually announce that Paul Kowalczyk will remain the interim AD until the New Chancellor is named and then the AD search will resume.

Anybody know how Minnesota's AD search is going? Are they as incompetent as we are? Are their fans approaching meltdown and rebellion too?

Barb, this is what our front porch looks like.

If we could get the renovations started sometime soon, that would be grreeeeaaaat.

Killeen likes to say this. She borrowed it from him. It means sports is how a lot of people see the university. Like a lot of people only ever see the front porch if a house.

The only way this is like a front porch is that this program is stooping itself.

Saw that too. Appointed interim AD in August `15, Hired a FB coach and as of January 19th still had not started a search.

Yeah, I mean presumably if they have already accepted Whitman as the fall back they wouldn't wait another 3 weeks to announce and finalize it. To me that gives a glimmer of hope that someone like Tiley is still in the mix, though I have been routinely disappointed, so I know how this plays out.

Either that or Babs is just lost and has no clue how long this process really should take or how to close it out.

There are similarities. Scandal plagued program that's claimed multiple scalps. Trainwreck of a basketball program (hockey way underperforming too).

But on the plus, they're riding one of the better runs (for them) in the past 5 or so decades of football. They have a president and chancellor in place (I think). And they have a state budget. So I guess they're mildly less incompetent than Illinois.

In all honesty, this is probably what they should have done in the first place. Once they decided to give the two year contract to Cubit, and they had an able Interim AD to run the athletic department on a day to day basis, there really was no true urgency in making the AD hiring before the hiring of the new chancellor. If I recall, most people estimated that a permanent chancellor could be hired by no later than April. If that is still the estimated timeline, it actually makes no sense to hire the AD now. The AD reports directly to the chancellor, so in a sane world one would think that the new chancellor would want to have input into the selection of the new AD. But then again, we are talking about illinois, where the word "sane" never seems to come into play with respect to anything that our administration does.

Remember, when we hired our last AD (Mike Thomas), he had been national AD of the year twice based on the results of BB and FB coaches which he hired and they had great success!

So don't get hung up on the success someone had at another school. The challenge here is much tougher. Look what Thomas was able to do here.

He'll probably go to Purdue and tear it up with great hires there.

I agree we should put the AD search on hold until a permanent chancellor is named (and Barbara Wilson clearly is proving herself not to be that person based on how badly she is handling this AD search).

In re-reading the Wilson quote on the timeline, she said BY the end of the month, not the end of the month necessarily. "By the end of the month" could be tomorrow!

I can't see how we are going to get Tiley. He makes $1.3 million a year! Will the chancellor want an AD who makes more than her, even if a donor endows the role? Highly unlikely!

Way too funny! Good job! I actually think Wilson is doing a good job and should be (likely will be) the permanent Chancellor. As far as the endpoint getting moved out a few times, it happens in everything in life for various circumstances. Wilson and the committee will ultimately be judged based on the result, whether it comes tomorrow or February 29 or March 15 for that matter. Hire the right person!

Boy, its a good thing this AD search is taking so long, it give us more time to rehash the same debates over the merits of the candidates over and over again.
