I got it .... The Coaches have been watching these NBA Dream Team's coming together & are looking to form their very own. Billy Donovan is coming to IL & he is bringing Coach K as his Associate; Izo is going to be the assistant handling the gamelans; & ole Bill Self is the lead recruiter.

Krystkowiak would be a tier 3 hire for me ;)
Bite your tongue good sir! Krystkowiak is an A+ candidate!

Holding out a prayer for Archie, but Krystkowiak is a name I am befuddled by the lack of excitement over. He will win next year here if we hire him, take it to the bank!

So I heard something in the past 90 minutes that I can't tell if I was being pranked or not. I was told that JW's top target is a very very successful P5 coach who's name I haven't seen (nor would have ever thought of being "available") listed as a potential hire.

I won't say who because I refuse to believe it's true.

I still think Jkat is our most reliable resource when it comes to forum posters with information. Would also love to see Lincoln add his $.02

I will play.

Bob Huggins or Mike Brey

Mike Brey? Is his salary really under $1m? He has been at ND for 15-16 seasons

ND has been top 5 in the ACC the last 3 years and was upper division most of the final years of the Big East. Before Brey ND had missed the NCAA for a dozen years straight but he's got them into the tournament 11 times.

I think it's because the K tree hasn't been very successful. Jeff Capel @ OU, Amaker @ Michigan, Quin Snyder @ Mizzou, etc

Brey is really the only one who was successful post duke without failing horribly first... at least that I can think of.

Exactly outside of duke what are they? Decent? Ok? I expected expect more than that at Illinois. Is NW in if this bubble isn't historically bad? Idk. Just being connected to duke, shouldn't mean you're right for Illinois.

Huggins would be a shocker given that he's an alumni. I was typing my Brey guess as your post went up.

Another wild guess. Mike Anderson.

I could not see Nolan's guy leaving Arkansas though.

There are not many others out there that I would consider successful power 5 coaches that have not already been discussed.

I am just trying to think of anyone that has been successful that has not been discussed a bit.

I think both Huggins and Anderson are far fetched but who knows what is possible.

Brey I could see.

Yes I can definitely see Brey. Everything I see on his salary show it is below $1m but he's gotten $700k bonuses the last two years. Before that he was making $800k range which is criminally low for what he has done at Notre Dame.

ND has made the Elite 8 two times in a row. He's coached mediocre talent to a decent team for years. I just don't know if his mediocre recruiting is due to academic standards or because he is bad at recruiting. Either way, we all love him here.

Huggins is never leaving West Virginia. And I don't mean that in a "Mark Few will never leave Gonzaga" way. I mean that in a "Huggins will coach at WVU until he dies" kinda way.

Top Five (according to sources in Chicago). Probability based on availability, price, willingness to leave current program, and affinity for the Illinois job compared to other options.

1. Kevin Keatts
2. Archie Miller
3. Tony Bennett
4. Donnie Tindall
5. Gregg Marshall

I had to look up Donnie Tindall. No effin way.

I thought it was conventional wisdom that no one really knows what coaches at private colleges make. It drove the Chicago media crazy that they couldn't get Brian Kelly's contract under the FOIA.

I agree that Huggins will coach at WVU until he dies. He may literally die coaching West Virginia, or on a barstool at the hotel postgame.

I went through and reviewed every power conference school's coach outside the Big Ten to see what the potential pool of candidates might be. There were some definitely interesting tiers and a reasonable pool of "maybes" to consider:

Hall of Famers (Roy, K, Boeheim, Wright, Calipari, Pitino, Self, Huggins)

"Unicorn Hires" (Miller, Bennett, Altman, Buzz)

Early on the job (Mike White, Avery Johnson, Bryce Drew, Jerod Haase, Prohm, Underwood, Beard, Smart, Mullin, Hurley)

Good Coaches, probably last stop (Larranega, Hamilton, Dixon, Kruger, Mike Anderson)

No thanks, not good (Manning, Pastner, Brownell, Stallings, Gottfried, Christian, Cooley, Thompson, Leitao, Weber, Kent, Tinkle, Romar, A. Kennedy, B. Kennedy, Fox, Barnes, Jones, K. Anderson)

Don't know how to classify, but no (S. Drew, Alford, Pearl, F. Martin, Howland)

Remaining Coaches: Krystkowiak, Enfield, C. Martin, Boyle, Holtmann, McDermott, Willard, Wojo, Mack, Brey)

Ranking the remaining coaches:

1) Krystkowiak
2) Mack
3) Enfield
4) Holtmann
5) Brey
6) Wojo
7) McDermott
8) Willard
9) C. Martin
10) Boyle

Add in Archie Miller, Gregg Marshall, Kevin Keatts, Eric Musselman from the Mid-Major ranks and my personal top 5 goes like:

1) A. Miller
2) L. Krystkowiak
3) G. Marshall
4) C. Mack
5) Keatts/Musselman (tie)

Enfield, Holtmann are right there though. Brey gives me a big meh feeling, but I get he has been pretty successful.
