As far as his coaching abilities and leadership skills are concerned, I'd be thrilled with Williams coming to Illinois. However I would pass on hiring him simply because he seems entrenched as an "NBA" guy, who would leave Illinois quickly for an NBA gig.

Two or three years would be fine if there is an assistant being trained such as the Rev.

And down to Archie, to boot. Better double our offer to Archie.
Come on you guys stop being so fickle. Oh by the way forget Keatts, Janovich, Marshall and Williams. I am switching to Archie Miller, unless he gets beat tonight, then I'll get back to you.

I love the thought of Roger Powell being an assistant on the staff. What a guy.

Monty Williams would be a great hire. This is also the only hire where retaining Walker makes sense. Monty has no existing staff and would need to add a couple of assistants who understand recruiting. If this is the case I would be pleased.

You may need to get your sarcasm meter checked.

If we were to hire any of the other big names as our head coach, they would probably use us as a stepping stone anyway.

Potentially, but it is also possible Whitman leaves some money on the table to match an offer from a "better" school. Plus, if the coach performs at a high enough level, it raises the profile of our program.

yup , the last thing JW is doing is reading a fan forum. Geez

Yes, that's (not quite) the last thing that JW is doing. But that doesn't stop one of his trusted associates from perusing all the wisdom found here and translating it into immediate actionable material for Mr. Whitman.

Is there any kind of buyout situation with Monty Williams? Also, if he was our coach and decided to go back to the NBA at some point wouldn't that team have to pay a handsome buyout to us?

Why would Alford leave UCLA, possibly with a team that can get to the final four, because UCLA's average attendance this year was 7200. Coaches like to coach where people care.

By the way, that was one of the higher averages in the PAC12, USC averaged 3492.

Are you suggesting he isn't qualified to be on our staff? If we hired Drew, he would almost certainly come here, no?

If we hired Drew, of course Roger would come. But bringing Roger as an assistant does not move the needle of wanting a specific head coach.

Mine is an analog one. Its hard to get parts for it. It fits on my head, which is thicker than I remember, when I remember. But I'll have it checked out Monday after Walt Whitman announces our new coach Archie Mueller.;)

Oh, agreed. We're being very theoretical at the moment. Hopefully no one is getting their hopes up.

Indiana averages more than double the attendance of UCLA
