I can't remember where I saw it, but Whitman said that he didn't offer the job to Monty or Cuonzo. He could be telling the truth because maybe at the time, he hadn't offered the job to Monty yet

If I had to guess, Whitman's people talked to Cuonzo and Whitman was less than enthused with the fit. Of course, I'm only guessing.

The Whitman interview was Wednesday, March 15th

I wouldn't worry about that. As bad as it sounds, Tilmon leaving is insignificant next to this coaching hire.

Agreed, though my Metro East roots mean that if he leaves specifically for Mizzou, my heart will die a little.

I think we might have to prepare for the fact that Mizzou is sitting on a potential gold mine of recruits unlike their program has ever seen. That being said, in five years I'm not sure they'll be any better off than us if we make the right coaching hire.

It could be as simple as Monty went home for a few days, looked at his 5 kids and said "Dang, I just turned down $25 million...get Josh Whitman on the phone"

But Whitman being interested in Monty has been news for at least a month now. It probably wasn't a matter of him deciding against it on Saturday. Odds are he decided against it earlier and just waited for the news of Groce officially being fired before dismissing the rumors.

Oh, I don't think they will. Martin's history suggests, to me, that he is a good recruiter and, at best, a decent coach who has a relative high floor but a relatively low ceiling. At any rate, as long as Mizzou doesn't make a Final Four between now and when that initial influx of recruits wears off, then I will be happy. I'd like to keep their distinction of never having made one.

Ok, and maybe now he has reconsidered. Or maybe he's got his feelers out in the NBA and doesn't like what he's hearing. Or maybe he started watching the tourney and decided hey, this might be fun. Heck if I know, but people change their minds about jobs all of the time

That's a lot of maybes based on a tweet sourced from flight tracker and a tweet from Kendric Prince. Seems unlikely to chance his mind less than a week after such a definitive no so quickly after the job even came open.

And Werner just RT'd a story about a restless Scott Drew...reaffirming my belief that no one truly knows anything substantial.
