I will say, underwood won a few upsets in the tournament with SF Austin and dominated his conference. OK ST went 12-20 last year, in his first year they made the tournament with a lot of the same roster. Impressive if you ask me.

If you think Underwood would be a great hire, then you have very low expectations for this program.

I think he may be a great hire. I think he has a pretty impressive resume significantly improving upon his predecessors' work very quickly at each stop. I think everything I read from people who know basketball is effusive about him. I think there's reason to believe he's a much better gamble than the flashier named Cuonzo Martins of the world. I think your comment that in order for Whitman to choose him he must have whiffed on all his other targets is ignorant.

I don't know much about Underwood, but I'm impressed based on quick research. Huggins/Martin coaching tree, dominated at Stephen F. Austin (won regular season and conference tourney each of his three years there), and pulled off upsets in two tourneys (as a 12 seed over VCU in 2014, 14 seed over WVU in 2016).

Offense points per possession:

Stephen F. Austin
2013-14: 9
2014-15: 9
2015-16: 12

Oklahoma St.
2016-17: 7

Defense points per possession:

Stephen F. Austin
2013-14: 40
2014-15: 48
2015-16: 7

Oklahoma St.
2016-17: 259

Season Team Overall Conference Standing Postseason

2013–14 Stephen F. Austin 32–3 18–0 1st NCAA Round of 32
2014–15 Stephen F. Austin 29–5 17–1 1st NCAA Round of 64
2015–16 Stephen F. Austin 28–6 18–0 1st NCAA Round of 32
Stephen F. Austin: 89–14 (.864) 53–1 (.981)
Oklahoma State Cowboys (Big 12 Conference) (2016–present)
2016–17 Oklahoma State 20–12 9–9
Oklahoma State: 20–12 (.625) 9–9 (.500)
Total: 109–26 (.807)

Never past the second round with all those great offenses and genius coaching ability. Freaking Groce and Weber at least made it to the second weekend

Ummmm.... it was Stephen F. Austin, and an awful Okla. State team, outside of Evans. I could be wrong, but his Stephen F. Austin teams did a good job in the next rounds--- just couldn't get it done.

If you think Underwood would be a great hire, then you have very low expectations for this program.

X's and O's wise, he's an elite coach. He runs a beautiful, explosive offensive system. Besides Marshall and Bennett (who runs a much uglier, but equally efficient system), no one on our list besides potentially Monty Williams or Eric Musselman would match Underwood in terms of strategy.

Personality wise, he seems congenial and articulate, but he's not going to connect with recruits the way Archie Miller or Cuonzo Martin will. He'd need some top-notch recruiters on his staff.

This would be a very good hire. Underwood could be Bo Ryan-like in his ability to outmaneuver even the murderer's row of Big Ten coaches.

I'm going to shed some light on these rumors. Some people with inside information may be posting vague rumors, but those who follow the recruiting thread know how accurate the "insider" information is.

Here's the deal with the flight trackers. There are some planes affiliated with the Illini and their boosters. See my previous posts.

Flight scheduled to UNCW this afternoon from Willard. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

https://flightaware.com/live/flight/N45HG

So... We have a flight due to arrive at Willard tonight from Jacksonville.

https://flightaware.com/live/flight/N816FG

This plane is owned by N816FG,LLC.

The registered agent in the state of Illinois for N816FG, LLC is Thomas Clarkson of Urbana.

According to LinkedIn Thomas Clarkson is an accountant at Flex N Gate - Kahn's company.

Obviously, this is a common itinerary for this plane, but... solving the flight watch puzzle can be a lot of fun.

Additionally, there are a few more planes associated with Khan as per this article:

http://www.superyachtfan.com/superyacht/superyacht_kismet.html

The planes mentioned in the above article are no longer being reported by flightware - the primary site used for this because it includes non-commercial flights.

https://flightaware.com/live/flight/N511FG

But if you search their tail IDs and go deeper than the 1st page on Google you can still get some inflight information regarding their destinations and flight plans.

For me it's been fun playing with the rumors, and following the puzzle. I'm not taking it seriously, but I haven't gone too deep. It seems like some other guys like IlliniNewsTweet have been looking at flight plans beyond Champaign. For example, there were some interesting flights into and out of Naples on Friday and the few days prior. Unless people are at the airport watching the passengers deplane it could be anyone, obviously.

Why the heck would Underwood leave after a year? When was the last time something like that happened to a P5 school?

I think from a purely basketball point of view an Underwood hire is solid. It's probably not a flashy hire that will fire up the fan base and inspire recruits.

Underwood

In fact, last year they DESTROYED WVU. Remember what WVU did to us this year. He didn't beat them as a Mid-Major. He DESTROYED them as a Mid-Major. Then lost to ND by one in a game they led the entire time until the last few seconds. ND went to the elite eight.

Just totally wishful thinking, will never happen, but I wish we could get Michael Jordan or similar as coach, if there is such a thing. We would have all the very top recruits and Michael would do a wonderful job. Cheers

Usually, the biggest stars of their sports are lousy coaches. They have standards that are not attainable for mortals. Wayne Gretzky was not a good coach in the NHL. Michael Jordan would not be a good coach, either. He was always ready to kick (the tails) of his teammates in practice if they did something he didn't like. Little patience for substandard play. But he would be a fabulous get for name recognition and he'd probably sell a lot more Hanes underwear.

Underwood is a good coach yes, but Whitman has 25 million to play with. He's going after the big fish. Underwood would be plan B or C if he is even on Whitmans radar.

Money? He is only making 1 mil this year with 100k raises over the next 3 years. I would assume if his name is tied to other schools he will get exactly what he wants at his current school. Just my thoughts

I'd still prefer Archie, but Underwood is intriguing. Very exciting style.

I don't have the time or energy to hand-hold people through why it would be impressive to rip a first year coach out of the hands of a program at Oklahoma State's level, let alone one who took a dumpster fire and turned it into one of the top offensive teams in the country.

If only some noble hero were willing to argue for hours with 11 people at once to drive home this point.

Underwood would be an absolutely incredible hire to the point where I'm actually questioning it, if that makes any sense. Like, why would he leave Oklahoma State for Illinois and only after 1 year? It'doesn't almost be like there would have to be something under the surface.

I never imagined he would be gettable for us (and of course he may not be, still).

Refer back to Whitman's comments. He may hire a $4.5m coach, he may hire a $2.5m coach, and people shouldn't make the mistake of thinking that the $4.5m hire is necessarily a better hire than the $2.5m guy.

So people are really starting to lose their grip. This board would be a great example to present to a sociology class.

Regarding Underwood, it feels like some people want to win the press conference more than they want to win basketball games.
