See this Underwood stuff 2 ways:

Or, it's a play against who Whitman really wants. You gonna make me wait? K, gonna go after someone else then. Either they bite, or hopefully Whitman gets someone he's comfortable with.

I tend to agree. And Whitman is not incompetent and doesn't want to be left with nobody if he strikes out his top 1-2 choices (John Groce recruiting, anyone?). Underwood would be a very good hire, though, and I would have no complaints.

But I mean, it's not like he's going to be meeting with Bennett or Marshall today. Maybe he's waiting on Monty to make up his mind. Who knows? Some of these coaches (Miller) might be waiting on Indiana as well.

Hearing 2 names over and over today and getting conflicting stories on each. Brad Underwood (Okla. St.) and Archie Miller (Dayton). #dechr

Let's just say we get underwood. Does Evans regret the decision not to come here? He will be with his third coach in 3 years. I think if he comes here we're not talking about hiring his coach but who we play next in the tourney

Has anyone started a pool to guess the number of pages on this thread at the time the new coach is announced?

Evans' next coach is likely in the League.

I'd be upbeat about Underwood if Frazier and Tillmon stick around... otherwise I'll be in wait n' see mode.

Eh, plane or no plane, I'm thinking an Underwood hire is pretty unlikely. An interview with Underwood's agent from an Oct. 2016 article on CBS Sports:

http://www.cbssports.com/college-ba...ngers-on-college-basketball-coaching-changes/

"It's a really weird dynamic," Just explained. "On one hand, I'm his agent, and one primary role of mine, and of any person who does what I do for a living, is to speak the truth, filter through information and add value to my clients, and now I have potential life-changing news for him. He played in the Big 12, was an assistant in the Big 12, always wanted to run a Big 12 program. And I'm so close with Brad that I know this is the kind of job that's always been a dream for him.

Edit: Apparently, I'm wrong. Lol.

X's and O's wise, he's an elite coach. He runs a beautiful, explosive offensive system. Besides Marshall and Bennett (who runs a much uglier, but equally efficient system), no one on our list besides potentially Monty Williams or Eric Musselman would match Underwood in terms of strategy.

Personality wise, he seems congenial and articulate, but he's not going to connect with recruits the way Archie Miller or Cuonzo Martin will. He'd need some top-notch recruiters on his staff.

This would be a very good hire. Underwood could be Bo Ryan-like in his ability to outmaneuver even the murderer's row of Big Ten coaches.

I'm responding to this with 3 more pages to read so I could be late on a similar reply. Brad Underwood is a beast. You guys want x and o? He is an x and o whiz. I've been lucky to see him teach his system, the spread, in person. Then got to see him teach sets and counters, in person. He has literally thought of everything. When he hasn't, he's sees what someone does against him, and he comes up with a counter for that. His system is a multifaceted motion. Hard cuts, pinch post and high low looks, and a backside pick and roll option every time. It fits our current team and our incoming recruits. Trent Frazier on an open backside pick and roll with Tilmon? Please. JCL filling behind that? Please. Kipper cutting to the rim on an alley look or isolated on the pinch post? Please.

Overall, Brad Underwood? PLEASE

My sources have confirmed this shot from Stillwater and Whitman was on board headed to Champaign.

Things have changed.

Underwood to be announced today. Shortly.

SORRY KATHY

Wow. Not the splash I was expecting. Bye bye recruits.....

Might as well kept Groce. Thinking Whitman whiffed on several targets before settling on Underwood. Very Mike Thomasesque.

Hope to God I'm wrong!!

Think he is a great coach, but if we went this route I would've preferred Keatts. I have a feeling Keatts was locked up by NC State early, and they were just waiting for his season to end - the benefit to firing a dead weight coach earlier than later.

Yep definitely possible. Sounds like Whitman has a lot of irons in the fire. Makes me think he's played out all these scenarios already and is prepared.
