Walters ran a 4-2-5 defense at Missouri. It will be interesting to see if that's what he runs here, at least initially, given the personnel we have at linebacker.

Would SEC guys have the most experience defending wicked RPOs?

The dirty little secret is that there tends not to be a heck of a lot of difference in practice between these definitions of defenses.

Especially between something like a 4-2-5 and a 4-3 for which the question is basically "what do we want to call Derrick Smith?"

And opponents are going to put you in sub-packages all the time, that's the game now.

The more definitional questions for a defense are more about whether they want one-gap or two-gap linemen and how much base they want to play versus getting into exotic blitz schemes, etc.

BOOM! Feed my ego.
Let's assume it's true. You gotta like the staff Bert is putting together. I get the sense he actually knows what he's doing. And you have to give Whitman credit for having the vision and getting him the cash to make it happen. Now they just have to figure out how to turn it into wins.

Good points. We had the "4-2-5 defense" in 2018 just so we could utilize Watkins as a nickel back. In the end, the defense was basically the same.

I do think it's an important distinction between running the 3-4-4 defense, which I really don't believe we have the personnel to run right now.

I am happy if it is the Mizzou guy. Their D got better over time, and that is with Drink having a fast-paced offense

I thought BB said that we will be using a 3-4 already? Or am I just completely misremembering?

Once the Bears started referring to Khalil Mack and Robert Quinn as linebackers I gave up.

I'll be very happy if it's Walters. Missouri fans will claim that they are simply moving on, but this is a massive get for us on the surface.

Strong sense I got from Mizzou earlier this week when report first surfaced about Walters talking to Illinois was MU was not worried about the situation - as in not worried about moving on should he leave.

We need to make our upcoming home-and-homes with them a permanent fixture of the schedule.

This has the key starting ingredient of a great rivalry: a total and sincere lack of any respect for each other at all.

Cory Patterson said he went into his interview with Bret Bielema just trying to be himself. Said he's going to work his tail off.

Cory Patterson: "I just like the University of Illinois, the community. My family and I have found a home here."

Cory Patterson on Bielema: "His emotions are out." Thinks that will play well with people.

"I think the guys are going to play hard and play their tails off for him."
