Solid hire. Will be more aggressive and s=active. BB building a good staff. If we can pull in solid transfer, which I believe we can, our D will be improved greatly.

There was no "i" and the "g" was lowercase. I don't remember the rest of the letters/numbers after "g0."
I think they were "440"...

Good points. We had the "4-2-5 defense" in 2018 just so we could utilize Watkins as a nickel back. In the end, the defense was basically the same.

I do think it's an important distinction between running the 3-4-4 defense, which I really don't believe we have the personnel to run right now.
I don't care what the defense is called as long as it's not an outdated vanilla "Tampa 2" with TEs running wide open over the middle of the field.

From what Mizzou fans on reddit were saying he is pretty aggressive with blitzes and and coverages alike. Meaning we will likely see some people running open every now and then, but if we have the players we should get to the QB and make them make bad throws more often than not.

well, it's not exactly a slow news day, is it? they may feel it is inappropriate to to post when everyone's attention is otherwise engaged with a more serious matter.
They should have buried the Petersen announcement today 🙊

Kind of related: I would like to see Illinois resurrect Fighting Illini Caravan from several years ago. I attended a stop (open to the public) at Forest Hills Country Club, Rockford, in Mike Thomas' first or second year. A new caravan of coaches Bielema and Underwood and others with MC Josh Whitman would be great. It would be a nice junket for them and a great recruiting/publicity opportunity.

This whole DC coordinator hiring has been strange. Saturday morning Kent Brown said the announcement would happen very soon as in a couple days. He’s not the type to leak info that’s not ready. And now that the world is talking about the hire, still nothing official 5 days later. As well as they handled the initial hire, seems odd to stumble on this. Of course normal people aren’t all that concerned about who it is, but with the current buzz, they certainly know people are watching. Are they having trouble finalizing the terms?

I’m not comparing the two, but who was the bungled hire that was announced before the contract was signed and he ended up walking because of it?

Like somebody else has said, there is something slightly bigger going on in the country right now. It’s possible that is delaying it.

As a PR person, I’d do everything I could to avoid releasing anything today. After the election last night, the knowns with the planned rally in DC, and the three ring electoral college circus...I would have been doing my best to lay low today, anyway. With the ultimate events of the day, I’d be patting myself on the back right now for the forethought of it all. In the grand scheme of things, outside of this board, a day or two delay is not that big a deal.

Bears? Dave McGinnis?

I think in light of what happened today in D.C. such frivolous things as announcing football coach hires should be put on hold.

That’s it! Got my O&B’s confused there. Lol.

Obviously no one would announce anything tonight I agree, but this has been out there all day before that mess started.

Walters is the most exciting of the three- most upside, great motivator, mentored under Odom so you know he’ll be aggressive. He’s had to scheme against a high talent gap and still had a top 17 defense in the country. He’ll be a head coach one day

So count me excited!

I am fine with Walters getting the nod at DC. Superb defense in 2019 and got lit up in 2020. He will be going on 3 different head coaches in 3 seasons now. I think the system Bielema will run here on both sides of the ball will get his numbers closer to the 2019 defensive numbers.
