Since they'll be running the 3-4, John Holecek as LBs coach. Seems like a no-brainer if they can work together.

Soooo is it still anybody’s guess on who he brings in or retains on the staff? Didn’t know if anyone had heard any names besides the ones guys like werner have thrown out there or connecting the dots with his coaching tree for potential fits.
These questions were lame. I wanted someone to ask a question on what will the X's and O's be? Does he have a plan laid out on when the coaches will be hired? Not how many fences he jumped as a kid. It was like listening to Jim Acosta today. Brutal

He did give a timeline for the coaches and how he wants to do it (coordinators first, then give them input on the rest of the staff), and he's also been pretty clear that the scheme stuff isn't set in stone yet, and he's not necessarily wedded to the stylistic stuff we've seen from him before.

Though he has said "control the clock" a number of times, I would not expect a tempo team out of him. He wants to play the kind of defense that requires being mindful of holding onto the ball when you get it.

I did like answer of not having penalties, not turning it over and keeping from mental mistakes, those were part of the playbook previous. Does that mean that a inane late hit or 6 missed tackles will finally stop on a regular basis? LOL

Best news yet.

Lovie saved 7-figures (at least) when he became DC. Hopefully it includes a sizable jump in available compensation. I'll be interested to see where it falls in line with the rest of the conference.

I think that was a carryover from Beckman. Remember defensive player making a good hit( which was few) then getting up showboating when we were down by 21. Lovie just seemed so passive for being the defensive coach he was supposed to be. BB sure doesn't seem to be that personality to put up with late hits, poor tackling. Sure know we need it.

At least he invested that savings into upgrading the rest of the staff!

Body by Lou going out the door is going to be disappointing for some (I have no opinion). I appreciated Rod most of the time, and there was a small moment on this board where people were terrified of losing him and wanted to give him a massive extension (with some asking if he could be named head coach heir apparent in some way) but it's not surprising to see he is leaving.

Sucks to see Lou go. Mostly because of his storied time in Champaign. Also partly because of the savior narrative the fans have built around him. I'm sure he's a great coach - I have nothing to argue otherwise. But I could see the new staff wanting to take it in another direction/bring in their own people.

Keep strength Coach Lou. Our football players look like football players and pass the eye test.
What a ridiculous statement! Our players pass the eye test! That means jack squat. “The old Quote fits our team “look like tarzan, play like Jane” Lou failed miserably at North Carolina as well! Could not develop any team speed. Those North Carolina teams were at the bottom on team speed during his tenure. The body by Lou stuff was all marketing hype that the world of college football strength and coaching is. Don’t be fooled. Even Alabama hired a new strength coach this year! Change at this position is essential

Looking to steal Michigan's S&C coach. He and BB worked together at Wisconsin and Arkansas.

Bellamy, CP, and Jimmy Lindsey will get a chance to interview with new coordinators.

Isn’t our DLine coach a former Bielema grad assistant? Possibility there too.

Edit: Didn’t read fully before commenting. Derp.

Ben Herbert is the Strength coach at Michigan and was at Arkansas. He is decent, but his salary at Michigan is currently 700k. Doubt he leaves for Illinois. Illinois next strength guy needs to be about accountability and developing the physical qualities to not get pushed around and outrun by teams such as northwestern and iowa

Might depend on whether he believes jumping ship would be wise with Harbaugh's future at UM being tenuous at best.

Bigmike, you seem more knowledgeable in this area than most of us. Who would you like to see?

You can take a good look at a T-bone by sticking your head up a bulls a** but wouldn't you rather take the butcher's word for it?
