He will be a great addition for a lot of programs but Bielema already tapped Jamison for DL coach and Haley has only coached the defensive line for the past ~10 years. Not sure I see a fit unless he's willing to accept a major responsibility change. Maybe the extra coaching slot could allow him an unconventional title of AHC + defensive run game coordinator? My initial reaction is he's probably been on the way out since Walters left and would have willingly come over to Illinois at the time if Bielema wanted him.
Feel like we could tap him for for edge and Jamison could be IDL or something like that since we have an extra slot.

Football Scoop & insiders at the Wolfpacker (NCSU's Rivals site) are noting that BB is making a run at George McDonald.

Not going to lie, as an NCSU fan, this is surprising to me. He had made several comments about how much he & his family loved Raleigh and liked the stability they had there. If Illinois hires him, they would have the stud recruiter we have been looking for AND he develops his players. NCSU's receiving corp went from being terrible under Frisman Jackson to a great strength under GMD's leadership. I know he has had several title adjustments (passing game coordinator, recruiting coordinator, co-offensive coordinator, etc) to keep him at NCSU in the past.

This isn't just for McDonald or NC State: we need to stop taking these comments from any coach as genuine. These are simply PR statements. Many of us live in places we enjoy but better pay, promotion, and/or more job stability will make all of us think twice about staying.

I can understand the PR statement aspect of it. That being said (having lived in both Raleigh and Champaign for an extended period of time), I would take Raleigh hands down, the Triangle is lovely if you can get past all the UNC fans. And that is exactly why I put stock in his comments. There are a ton of ex-NCSU coaches that have retired to or live in Raleigh.

Sure, but if a coach is 44 and is fired next year, retirement isn't a consideration. This is why Hawaii or Arizona State doesn't have greater coach retention than programs in less desirable locations. The coaching profession isn't about location, it's more about pay/stability. I don't know a single person dying to work+live in Tuscaloosa unless you're in the football coaching profession.

Has BB named a recruiting coordinator yet? If not I think McDonald's the guy, as he has experience in that capacity.

And boy do we need WR's!!!!

Hoping first for some top-notch transfers, followed quickly thereafter by some superlative 2022 and 2023 recruits!

That sounds like less than a done deal, but man, on a very good staff that would be the best hire by a country mile. Absolute grand slam to get him as something other than OC.

And this is a good example of the way to think about "bleeds orange and blue" alum hires. If you're doing it right, them having gone to Illinois is OUR pitch to THEM, not the other way around.

Disappointed that Bellamy wasn't retained, but McDonald is a great hire. He's a fantastic recruiter.
Why is Bellamy preferred over McDonald? They're both alums and McDonald has been much more successful. Seems like a no brainer.
