Might not be a bad idea if you like high scoring games (and you don't care about winning and it's the other team doing all the scoring.)

I was a graduate student at Texas A&M when Sumlin was hired. Other than catching lightning in a bottle with Manziel, it was awful.

I later took a job at Arizona. They then hired Sumlin. It was uniformly awful.

He's like a plague that keeps following me. I hope it doesn't continue.

Given the way JW seems to operate I cannot imagine he doesn't have a top candidate with only a little to finalize and probably a fall-back candidate waiting if the first fails. JW knows he has to get this one right. I will bet my imaginary beach house that we will have a hire before a week passes. And yes, I do know the notice requirements.

I am guessing something reasonable like Monken. But I am already on to the insane level. Checked Flight Trcker for the last week. Not too promising. But I had to check out the Montreal Alouette's coaching staff. See nothing there. Then Charlotte. This would excite me. But, I am just making up prospects.

As an uninformed person on such things, I wonder how much coaches factor in the athletic director when deciding whether to take a job. Whitman seems like the kind of AD that people would want at the top of the program. Very positive, high energy and supportive, professional, and he seems to fight hard to bring in resources a program needs. As opposed to prior ADs (cough, cough ... MT) who, you know, were not.

Brady is likely to get an NFL gig soon

I think I get what you’re saying, but if they didn’t care about winning, why would they pay so much? I think I saw somewhere that Lovie was Top 20 in the nation in pay. Then I think (1) Top pay, (2) A top facility (3) Big Ten, (4) Patience and a long leash ... then why is the gig so undesirable?
The university is not paying, the athletic department is. Separate entity.

Outside the box hire I wouldn’t mind seeing. Bill Bedenbaugh.
He's only earning $750,000/yr, I don't know much about him other than he went to Iowa Wesleyan which is an 45 minutes to an hour from where I live in the Western Illinois part of the state. Co-offensive coordinator at Oklahoma State.

Based on lack of enthusiasm I’d guess someone like Clark Lea. Mostly because that would not excite me
Lea is not likely. He has been mentioned for the Vandy job, his alma mater

He’s apart of the Leach and Lincoln Riley tree. Has been the offensive line coach at OU since 2013. Is a top 25 recruiter in the country.

How about the head coach of BYU Kalani Sitake? He has been there for 5 years, winning records all but one in a pretty competitive league with a very good year in 2020. He's a BYU grad which you'd think means a pretty cleancut guy who wouldnt cause distractions.

They love him there, has brought stability to the program. He's not going anywhere.

I think you meant Co-OC at OU. Dudes one of the best(if not the best) oline coaches in the country but i bet he’s content where hes at if I had a guess. Bet he could build a pretty nice coaching staff though.

I doubt you could get him out of Texas but Art Briles would be interesting in the BIG with his ability to recruit the Republic, I do see that most want a youth movement. TWO Things (1) Everything he did at Baylor was with 2 and 3 star recruits and a rare, very rare 4 star (2) As the cases against Baylor during his tenure are coming to trial, it is coming to light that Baylor was pre-mature in the way they handled Art and firing him (my daughter is a student at Baylor and we have friends that have been boosters for decades). Last thing about Briles, if he could get them to C-U, within 2 years Memorial Stadium would be home to "the Flying Illini" .... offense, offense, offense and his defense plan is being the last team in the 4th quarter playing offense, extremely entertaining football.

Also with Malzahn now on the market he was 68-32 at Auburn and obviously knows how to recruit.

I will renounce any Illini football fandom I have if we hire Art Briles.

lol, your fandom is safe, Briles won't leave Texas plus there are grumbling coming from Lubbock that Texas Tech boosters are wanting to buy out the current coach and get Briles.... I'm guessing the "_frog" is a TCU nod.
