Leipolds passing offense 832 yards total for the season 166 yards per game. We passed for 158 yards per game. Not exactly a wide open offense. They did rush for 344 per game. His offense is more on par with Army, Navy as far as balance.

When I was a kid in 6th grade maybe, I wrote Kruger a letter telling him how excited I was to have him as our coach. I even talked shop a little, praising Matt Heldman’s court vision, also asked for more minutes for Chukwudebe (he was from Springfield Lanphier and graduated with my sister). He wrote me back! Hand written letter and everything. I will always be a supporter of Kruger. I can’t imagine Self doing that.
Was at local restaurant with friends, during the final week or so of SELF.....one of my friends asked Bill if he was really going to Kansas....." oh no, that;s just a rumor, I like it here at Illiinois", two days later he's the Kansas coach. Kinda smells....

Surprised we haven't heard the name Jason Candle. Repeated number 1 recruiting class in MAC, out recruited Lovie from the MAC. Offense averages 495 yards 325 pass and 169 run. Young coach (41) from the Mt. Union tree 38-21 at Toledo. Just weird we haven't even heard this name.

Toledo has regressed almost every year since he took over.

I graduated in 1983 . I’m 59 now
I swear Loren looked 65 - 70 then .
How in the world is he still alive and/or still working ?????
Almost 90 I believe, and I hear he can "beat his age" in golf. I highly recommend Saturday Sports Talk with Loren and Steve Kelly. Great guests, lots of reminiscing, the inside scoop on all of your historical Illini favorites and oftentimes hints of upcoming announcements (i.e. recruit signings and coaching hires).

I just listened to Loren Tate and Brian Barnhart on Monday Morning Quarterbacks from earlier this week. Following that discussion, I am seriously considering the Monken family for the first time. (I was previously turned off by the Army offensive scheme. However, I'm not so sure we'd necessarily be running it.) I'd like to get both Jeff and Todd. Loren seemed to also be a supporter. In-state recruiting would see a definite uptick!

Surprisingly, however, Loren did not purport to have a leading candidate.

This has been said many times - but It makes no sense to me to have a coach who has made his name and success running a specific type of offense come in and completely change to something new. It would take several years to even account for that type of change and that is assuming he can find the A level OC needed to make that change.

I think its either Monken with TOption (HARD pass for me as I like to stay awake during sporting events) or someone else.

PS: Loren Tate probably shoots granny style and, what, is over 100 by now?

Give me Lance Leipold of Buffalo. I’d be thrilled with that.

I don’t want that old former chunky Badger.

As far as Jeff Monken, as a Georgia Southern alumni who was there from 2010-2014 (Monken was there from 2010-2013).....I couldn’t be mad at my two schools coming full circle. I think we would be competitive. But, let’s be real, we would never be more than a consistent team who goes to bowl games and maybe competes for a conference championship once in a blue moon.

I know most fans would be thrilled with that considering our recent history, but we should want more.

So I don't know why I'm doing this, but what the hell. How would people feel about LL if he goes out and lays an egg tonight and loses to Ball State? Also, what if BB is putting a staff together that includes Nate as QB coach and John Holocek as LB coach? Not impossible.

Why are you doing this? Lol
Give me BB with Illinois alumni on the staff over LL! recruiting should improve drastically if I had to guess..

I’d rather take a chance on one of the young coordinators than LL. LL isn’t a bad hire just definitely not someone to get excited about. I’d prefer an offensive minded, young, charismatic guy with Midwest connections. (Which got me thinking)
How many times has a coordinator with no HC experience been hired @ a P5 school in last 20 years??
I was gonna say Pittman at Ark, but just looked it up and he was a HC at Hutchinson CC.

We will see. Still not impressed with BB.

Just to play hypothetical. What if LL gets Nate as QB coach and J for LB coach?

Depends on the season, 2017 threw for 290+ a game
Hopefully, a sign of a coach that recognizes where he has talent. And, the ability to adjust as each year is different.

Illinois hasn’t had a coach like that in ......decades.

Nate has publicly stated how much he likes Matt Campbell's character and the way he treats his players. I can't see him working for BB. Not sure if Holocek would give up his gig to work for BB as a position coach, either, but maybe.

I think the J stuff is overblown. I'd love to see him get into coaching, but as awful as this sounds, Miles had more coaching experience than him at the time of the hiring.

I think Nate is a possibility with any staff, but I think the likelihood is very low unless he's bumped up to a co-OC level or full OC. LL has a loyal staff, but I am under the assumption that one of the OC/co-OC guys on his staff will be promoted to HC at Buffalo. Also, his staff does lack P5 experience, so I would imagine outside of his core guys, he'll have about half his staff to fill out with experienced P5 guys.

I agree. I was just trying to throw out some assistant coach names that we would be familiar with. I honestly don't see why Nate would come here, unless that ISU OC gets the head job and makes him our OC. Matt Campbell is about the best HC to work under right now if you're Nate. He'll be at a blue blood in the next 2 years and Nate very well could be OC in that timespan or soon after.

Miles had 0 coaching experience, analyst and quality control isn't coaching. Miles also wasn't an all american linebacker, nor do I even think he played football.....
